I vote for me. I'll probably lose to Brett but that's okay because he has a good team.
Rangi (twas relatively easy, Afraid of Everyone is my favorite song on either team and Rangi has his share of songs I don't care for but BRL has the fucking Wilco/Arcade Fire/Cvhvuehvheurches shitfecta and I can't possibly vote for that)
stip vs. bada was harder. Stip's team is a fairly unremarkable set of songs with one giant turd on top of it. Ode to Sad Disco is nice but it's way too long. The Bad In Each Other is good enough to make me want to check out the album (if I didn't know better, that is). Bada's team is a fairly unremarkable set of songs (except more rocking) with a giant turd on top of it (Nothing Gonna Stop Us). Neither team has high points that could sway my vote so it all comes down to which one has the most songs I really dislike. Stip has St. Vincent, Cloud Cult and MYM. Bada has Mastodon, Darkness, Soundgarden and Taylor Swift/TCW. Vote for stip.

Well it's official. Heathen's a dude. There isn't a woman on earth who wouldn't get wet for these four.

PS: Good call on having 6 teams only. Made listening slightly easier.

Okay, lets do some listening. Brett and Heathen
IIRC, song lengths are a lot more reasonable this time around.

Re: Best Decade Tournament 2010->: Round 2a voting 9/8 - 9/1
well that was exhausting. Lets see...
Brett
Colin Stetson: This was the bass sax song. This was pretty cool. One of my favorite of the non traditional songs drafted this tournament
Sandro Perri—this was also pretty good. I don’t know that it was 10 minutes good, but pretty good. I’m having a hard time thinking of the words to describe the feel of the music, but I liked it. Just not for 10 minutes, especially when around the 7 minute mark or so it started getting weird without purpose (at least it appeared that way on a casual listen)
Sufjan stevens: I feel like the fact that I have a few playlists to get through, and limited time, is gonna hurt the songs on Brett’s teams more than others. The only SS stuff I’ve heard is Illinoise. This wasn’t exactly what I expected. Good song, though it does start to wear out its welcome eventually. In fairness though, it’s not like I’m in a place where I can really let the arc of the song carry me along with it
Carla Bozulich – I liked the music in this one, but I just can’t get into this singer. I just think she’s unpleasant to listen to.
Eluvium-this was excellent. Really moving—the sense of yearning was pretty palpable. It made me wish I had time for headphones in the dark
Timber Timbre—this seems like the kind of song bugs, bada, or delima would really be into. Not me, though it did grow on me a bit as it progressed.
Esmerine—Another cool instrumental. Probably my second favorite thing on this playlist after the Eluvium song.
Tindersticks—didn’t come across as particularly insightful or interesting, but the lyrics only got a casual listen
Oceansize-this was a good song. Probably my third favorite thing on this playlist. Maybe second. The final two minutes helped justify the length, though this was still probably a little overlong.
Three Silver Mt. Zion – intriguing song that sensibly moves on to the next sequence just as I’m starting to lose interest in the current moment. I still think this singer kinda sucks, but the interesting music covers for it most of the time. By 10 minutes I was bored, though, even though I know this is the climax of the song.
Despite the fact that it takes 4 hours to sit through this, it was actually a pretty decent mix. The Eluvium song was the keeper here.
Heathen
Yellow Swans-this felt like an ambitious linking tracks on a tool record. I will say that if I ever decide to really pull out the stops for Halloween this would be an excellent thing to have looped for ambiance. This could be an excellent piece of mood music for the right occasion
Matana Roberts-my interest in jazz taps out after about 3 minutes. This is a 10 minute song. Fortunately it turns into discordant noise and out of tune screaming. I was worried for a minute. Then back to jazz.
This had 453 views on youtube, which is about 400 more than it deserved
Bill Callahan—I should like this guy more than I do. He’s like The National of singer songwriters for me
Marissa Nadler-This was a very good song. Highpoint of the mix so far, and maybe my second favorite thing I’ve heard thus far from this or Brett’s mix.
Chuck Johnson—This has 7 views on youtube. Either you uploaded this or you are Chuck Johnson. This was an ok instrumental. Pretty samey for an 8 minute piece.
Balmorhea - I wanted to share this YouTube comment from someone:
This was a good piece of music. I like it when an instrumental can hold my interest for 7+ minutes.
Menomena—this song made me wish I owned windchimes. Not bad at all
Retribution gospel choir-unremarkable song that really wants to be something powerful. But once it gets to the bridge/back half of the song it gets pretty awesome. Then it gets boring again
Yakuza—this was kinda cool. I like the crazy breakdown at about 3:30-4 minutes in when the song takes off, until this yutz starts screaming and I have to roll my eyes. This is much better than that other metal song you drafted a few tournaments ago
Three Silver Mt. Zion—I liked the music, but oh god, when this guy starts singing…It’s painfully bad. I preferred Brett’s choice here.
Not sure how I want to vote here.
Strong songs:
Brett-- Eluvium
Heathen Marissa Nadler, Balmorhea
Decent Songs:
Brett--Colin Stetson, Sandro Perri, Sufjan Stevens, Esmerine, Oceansize
Heathen--Yellow swans, Menomena, Retribution Gospel Choir
Ehhhh:
Brett-Timber Timber, Carla Bozulich, Tindersticks, Three Silver Mount...
Heathen-Bill Callahan, Chuck Johnson, Yakuza,
Crap:
Heathen--Manta Roberts, Three Silver MOunt
I think Brett barely edges out Heathen. Close, though
Also, I vote for myself over Bada

So imagine how angry heathen must be if this is what he’s like AFTER listening to Balmorhea! So here we are, according to the media.... all of the countries in the world hate each other, but when we all come on youtube and listen to the likes of Balmorhea, Olafur Arnolds, CandyRat records artists, etc... we seem to get along just fine.... Am I missing something??
