It was everywhere here too. I probably/usually would be sick of it but my son liked it. I wish someone had picked Lorde-Royals so we could discover that Stip has never heard it.

I'm probably equally as clueless about modern pop music as stip is.
I've never heard that M83 song either. I think I've heard Lorde's Royals one time while shopping (at least that's what I presume it was).
I heard Daft Punk's Get Lucky maybe once, a few months after it came out.
I can't really see how you'd come into contact with that sort of thing unless you seek it out (and I have no interest in doing that).

Maybe it's different in Australia, but to me it seems that, with cross-marketing and social media, the songs that reach that level of ubiquity do so because they're blasted at you from virtually every direction-- movies, television, shopping malls, the internet, et al.Birds in Hell wrote:I can't really see how you'd come into contact with that sort of thing unless you seek it out
I never sought out "Royals", it was plopped onto my lap at some point, and I can't even remember how. Like HPV.

I'm gonna be so glad when this is all over and I don't have to watch the same 6 youtube commercials over and over.
Speaking of. Abnorm, if you get a chance can you make playlists for the teams in the final tournament?

YouTube has ads? AdBlock Plus, yo. I only turn it off for sites that need the funds and aren't obnoxious. And I have text ads turned on.
Also, yeah, I should be able to put 'em together, though I won't be digging through the early tournaments to find which videos people posted. I'll just grab the most obvious one, and if people want something different, they can let me know.

I used to have Youtube Options, which gave you full control of your Youtube experience. But I see now that it's become a paid subscription service.

DSB
1. Justin Townes Earle—this was a fun song. I really like the chorus with the backing vocals
2. Alabama Shakes—10 million views. Probably gonna get yelled at for not knowing this one either. That’s certainly not what I would have pictured that singer looking like. I don’t even know if I liked this song or not. I was just so hypnotized by her and trying to figure out if it was really her or not. This was okay. I liked the previous song more, but it’s not like this was bad or anything.
3. Jenny and Johnny—is this jenny lewis? It looks and sounds like her and it has jenny in the title. Maybe this is another Mike Patton project. This was pretty good in the pleasant enough way that everything I hear from her seems to be.
4. Sharon Jones—great video, cool song. This song sounds like it should be 40 years old.
5. Decemberists—after that first decemberists song I loved I’ve grown less and less interested with each subsequent song drafted. It’s not bad, but it’s not compelling either.
6. Best coast—what a jaunty little song. I liked this, but I still don’t care about California
7. Josh Ritter—I’ve heard of him but don’t know that I’ve heard a song. So I’m excited for this. This seemed like the Jenny Lewis of male singer/songwriters. It was a nice song, and I enjoyed my time with it, but I don’t think I’d be going back to it. I really liked the drums here but the song lost points when it got louder at the two minute mark. I was just starting to get pulled into the mood and didn’t find the swell all that moving
8. Neil Young-I don’t like Neil Young’s voice, and I don’t like his guitar playing. So I’m sure this will go well. Huh. It didn’t.
9. Centro-matic—this was okay. I feel like I’ve already heard every element of this song somewhere previous on this playlist, though. I think it dulled the impact of the song a bit.
10. New Multitudes-a nice choice to close out the mix, but like centro-matic, maybe a bit too much of the same at this point. Interesting youtube comment:
Nice tune!!! Eddie Vedder like on that track. Looking forward to the album.
I can hear it in a few places.
This was a very solid mix . Just about every song was pretty good, and it flowed quite well, though there were no standout tracks.

It is, I liked Lorde, and royals for that matter, before it really blew up. Obviously I got pretty sick of that song, but the album still holds up.cutuphalfdead wrote:Pure Heroine is a pretty solid album.numbers wrote:I wish someone had picked Lorde-Royals so we could discover that Stip has never heard it.
