Re: NHL Thread
they didnt overpay for either of the guys.
joe was one of our prospects at D, along with about 5 other players. shero has stockpiled young talent that everyone wants and now that he has a plethora of them they are tradeable. all the ones that have been traded havent broken into their teams rotation yet.
the man is smart, pure and simple

Re: NHL Thread
I absolutely understand the value of adding toughness and veteran presence in hockey (especially on a team with high-end talent like Pittsburgh) and trading depth from an area of strength to add to a weaker area is just smart asset management.Peeps wrote:they didnt overpay for either of the guys.

Your explanation makes sense to an extent, but it doesn't even consider the player coming back. Just because they have depth in one area doesn't make it a good trade. If they had traded Morrow for a fourth line rental it wouldn't be a good trade just because they have other defensive prospects.
I actually like the Morrow for Morrow trade. I think it will be worth it, but I also think they gave up a lot for what they're getting. The Murray trade is absolutely a huge overpayment.

i dunno, i almost see it like a guerin trade (albeit not the same position)
i think sid is finally asserting himself in the locker room rather than just leading by example. surely im a little biased but the interviews i have been seeing he just seems more and more at ease with everything

I had to look that one up, and it surprises me that they only gave up a 3rd round pick for Guerin, especially considering he was having a pretty good season.Peeps wrote:i dunno, i almost see it like a guerin trade (albeit not the same position)
I'm not trying to say that either is a bad trade. Obviously if the players they've brought in help them win a Cup it was worth it, and they have definitely made the team better/deeper. I just think they gave up a lot to do that. They're in exactly the right position to be overpaying, though... it's worth it when you're already a legitimate Stanley Cup contender. I would be pissed if the Leafs did something like that.

He is a Penguin not a Bruin like we thought. I pray every day for a Blackhawks vs. Penguins final. Not even the NHL could screw that up.

Re: NHL Thread
although i agree and laughed at this, has the trade-deadline passed? are the Bs SOL? possibly, but nothing's over and done at this point. i'm not optimistic, i'm just thinking it's still early to say that the Bs have regressed to pre-cup management.MattA75 wrote:Best tweet of my morning:

What I heard was that it came down to Iginla's choice of where he wanted to go. I think the rumoured package from Boston was better, so you can't really fault them.MattA75 wrote:Best tweet of my morning:

Is it just me, or is that a pretty lackluster return for Iginla? I know he's a rental, but... I don't know, I guess I just expected more. That seems like a great trade by the Penguins and makes the other trades look even better.

Jay Feaster is a moron, the Bruins deal was 10x better.

if what I've heard is correct, Feaster had his hands tied by ownership, who told him to get the best offers from each team and then ask Iginla where he wanted to goshinkdew wrote:Jay Feaster is a moron, the Bruins deal was 10x better.

That's just such a horrible way to do business. Iginla had already given them a list of teams he would accept a trade to, so I don't see why they felt the need to let him pick which of those four trades to accept. The Flames are such a mess.MattA75 wrote:if what I've heard is correct, Feaster had his hands tied by ownership, who told him to get the best offers from each team and then ask Iginla where he wanted to goshinkdew wrote:Jay Feaster is a moron, the Bruins deal was 10x better.

no, but unless you're moving roster players out with years left on their contracts, it really screws up their cap for next yearelliseamos wrote:i really hope this means the Bs get creative. go get st. louis, yandle & jagr. that's not entirely impossible.
doesn't Jagr have another year on his deal? I know St Louis has 2
If Chiarelli was smart he'd see if he could sucker someone into taking on Lucic's insane contract that starts next year

Re: NHL Thread
horton's & ference are gone next year. using capgeek's calculator, i've got the Bs 1M over w/ all 3 players on the roster next year, at this year's price (translation that means resigning jagr to 4.5M next year)MattA75 wrote:no, but unless you're moving roster players out with years left on their contracts, it really screws up their cap for next yearelliseamos wrote:i really hope this means the Bs get creative. go get st. louis, yandle & jagr. that's not entirely impossible.
