I love that George Harrison's memorial tree got destroyed by beatles
A tree planted in memorial to late Beatles guitarist George Harrison following his death in Los Angeles in 2001 has been killed by bark beetles amid California's epic drought, a local official said on Tuesday.
"I really enjoy sandwiches but the other guys are so good at making sandwiches that I don't make them. Now I make sandwiches."

I listened to this (the mono mix) for the first time ever just now and heard stuff (echo before the last chorus) i had never heard before. is the outro longer?
anyway, there's much more oomph to this than the stereo mix. think i'll have to inve$t further on this...

That's the whole point of mono, to have all-purpose impact. What you heard in 60's stereo mixes was a gimmick that was dependent on your hi-fi gear and where you were sitting. For a mono mix, all you needed was one speaker and it didn't matter where it was...it always has the same impact. So this is what you heard coming out of car radios, televisions, portable record players & the speaker at the drive-in movie.

Headphones exaggerate the shittiness of 60's stereo mixes ten fold.

Besides Paperback Writer...Revolution #2 and Lady Madonna are also 1,000 times better in mono because of the pussy stereo separation factor.

Baby You're A Rich Man and Lucy In The Sky have psychedelic effects in mono that are missing from stereo mixes.

Help! has a completely different vocal in mono.

Agreed.

I was blown away the first time I heard Paperback Writer in mono, the stereo mix sounds almost comically weak in comparison.

I can't wait to start picking up these mono records. I can't justify the $375 for the box, but these will be mine in one way or another.

There are probably just as many examples of the stereo version being much better than the mono.

Not really, though some stereo mixes are certainly better than others.

As WCT touched on, the mono Beatles mixes (at least up until 1968) represent what the songs were actually meant to sound like; unlike the stereo mixes, which were largely thrown together as an afterthought by the production team, the band were actively involved in the mixing of the mono versions and they much more closely represent what the band had intended the songs to sound like.

this is a topic i've been really curious about since the release of the recent remasters on vinyl. which is the best route to go to fill in some holes in my vinyl Beatles discography? the new 2009 vinyl remasters? these mono versions? used copies from the 60s/70s?

I prefer most of the stereo mixes on Sgt Peppers to the monos.

60's/70's Parlophone pressings for stereo, and the new 2014 pressings for mono.

For stereo, I do not recommend the MFSL pressings, the 1994 pressings or the 2009 pressings. They are all crap IMO.

If you're looking to get a stereo box set, get the old BC-13 box which is made from original stampers. I don't know how much they cost these days, but they're nice. The 2009 box is a joke.
