TV: The Strain (FX) (Del Toro)

I'm listening to the audiobook of this at work, today. Haven't seen the show.

It's pretty pulpy, and not exactly clever, but it's turning out to be a good fun way to pass a dull workday. Even given the tropey nature of the characters, they're developed enough that you can grow to care about them.

It's no worse than most of the other shows on TV. Last night on Sons Of Anarchy two groups lined up across from each other in the open with automatic weapons and only the "bad guys" got shot. Ridiculous.

never was able to get into that show. everything about it was just terrible.

Watched the first episode tonight after listening to the book today. It amazes me that, in an era of House of Cards, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, etc...they took that campy source material and thought, "this is too subtle and smart for TV. We'd better dumb it down. A lot."

I almost gave up on the book around the time it got to the extra generic late-90's rock star guy, but the first hour of the show makes that stuff look like Tolstoy.

And he's the best character by far.

By the way, that "master" costume hasn't gotten any better. In fact, because he talks more in this episode it is actually worse. I can't wait for Skitch's opinion.

He kinda looks like something out of Fraggle Rock. Bizarre.

Yes, the face is terrible. But really, I haven't seen hands that fake probably ever. It is absolutely incredible how badly they botched that costume.
