Nope, you're thinking of Good Omens. It's good, but a bit disjointed. Small Gods is a sort of stand alone Discworld novel.

that is easily his best series, but Small Gods is a self contained story so it seems easier. I also think guard's guard's is a step below the rest of that stellar series. I wouldn't argue with that choice, though

Yeah, I think Men at Arms is probably a better entry point.

the new ST movies are like when we order broccoli at our favorite Italian restaurant and it's really good because it's just swimming in garlic and olive oil and is no longer really broccoli

I'll continue, forever and ever, to argue that new ST isn't as far removed from old ST as sooooooo many people try to insist.

I am not remotely familiar enough with star trek to comment one way or the other, other than to say that these were not only the first star trek movies I really liked, but they were also the first I didn't find appallingly boring, and not laughably acted.

There is some fantastic acting in the Next Generation moves. Patrick Stewart rips it UP in First Contact. You should watch that one if you haven't already. It's a really great ST movie. It's full of all the things "make Star Trek Star Trek" but also full of wonderful action sequences and clips along at a nice pace. It's really one of the best in the whole franchise, I think.

I'm sure the real Star Trek fan will be around any minute now to tell me I'm wrong.

The Final Frontier.

Not a terrible film, but they painted themselves into a corner with that one. There was absolutely zero way to have a satisfying ending. It totally unravels. But it's worth seeing, especially if you've seen all the others.

The ending is actually my favorite part of The Final Frontier, and one of my all-time favorite Kirk moments. While everyone else is so amazed that they're supposedly meeting "God," only Kirk has the balls to question it to its face. Ask it a question. Call it out. Fucking badass as hell.

I can totally understand why people hate that movie; it's goofy as shit. But that's part of why I love it.
