Re: MLB
So the Billy Beane-era A's drop to 1-12 in games where they can advance now, right? And this guy still believes the playoffs are a "crapshoot." Why do people still give this team the benefit of the doubt that they'll do anything other than shit the bed in the postseason?

I considered bailing on the game a few times once it reached extras... it's funny because despite the lack of sleep, I never end up regretting staying up late to watch playoff games.Simple Torture wrote:I passed out after Oakland scored in the 12th

That was the first baseball game I have watched all year. Picked a good one. Go Royals!

Last night was a perfect example of why baseball is perfect and better than most things.

Billy Beane has terrible luck, then.philpritchard wrote:He likely believes it because it's true.Lament wrote:So the Billy Beane-era A's drop to 1-12 in games where they can advance now, right? That seems pretty accurate.numbers wrote:Billy Beane has terrible luck, then.philpritchard wrote:He likely believes it because it's true.Lament wrote:So the Billy Beane-era A's drop to 1-12 in games where they can advance now, right? Let's take a look at a few of those teams: 2000, 2006, 2013.
All but two regulars on the 2000 roster were gone by 2006 (Eric Chavez and Barry Zito are the exceptions). Every single player on the 2006 team was gone by 2013. What did Billy Beane do that caused eight different A's teams to lose in key moments?

Re: MLB
I'm with phil on this one. The common theme for Billy Beane detractors is the bats are never good enough to go up against the good pitching in October, so has teams that can win in the regular season but not in the playoffs. But last night the bats were not the problem, it was the pitching. But your starting pitcher has one of the best post season resumes around. Sounds to me like shit luck.

Re: MLB
Absolutely. Those, detractors, by the way, are probably wrong anyway. The whole "good pitching beats good hitting" thing is pretty much completely garbage.cutuphalfdead wrote:I'm with phil on this one.
