Re: The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast
Fred & Carrie was a good listen, too. I didn't find it awkward at all, though. And I didn't think Carrie was standoffish at any point. She was super pleasant and engaged the conversation eagerly and with class.
Fred's was a tad abrasive at the start with The Hurt Locker stuff. But he's right. It's a great movie.

Listen to the intro of the Ivan Reitman...Bret talks about the whole stuff, and he says Carrie was as sweet as always.durdencommatyler wrote:Fred & Carrie was a good listen, too. Fred just seemed totally unwilling to engage with anything BEE posited. The Hurt Locker, comedy being aggressive, whatever. I thought it was noticeably awkward and icy. That's what I love about it. In addition to the Reitman ep, BEE also talks about it further at the end of the Ira Sachs episode (which also gets a little icy at times).

Re: The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast
Yeah, he comes out a little hot. But he levels off early and then they communicated well the rest of the time, I thought. I think Fred is just an oddball. He's a little bit of a poor communicator, but it certainly didn't feel awkward or icy or whatever past that first initial boom. It leveled off pretty quickly, I thought. He seems to really love that movie.LoathedVermin72 wrote:"It is great! Why criticize it?"VinylGuy wrote:But Fred...that part of the hurt locker? that was just crazyl.

American Psycho is a phenomenal movie, it's incredibly funny and the performances are all perfect. I also don't think a lot of people realize it was directed by a woman, which makes it even better. I haven't read the book but I really like his novels in general. IMO he's one of the great moralists/satirists of our time. I might have to check out this podcast if y'all are enjoying it this much.

I'm not sure that I've seen an Ira Sachs film. Have you? Any you'd recommend?LoathedVermin72 wrote:Tell me about it, man.durdencommatyler wrote:"We don't talk about things like subtext and motivation. You've got to stay away from stuff like that."

I actually have not. None of them ever sounded appealing to me (and after listening to that ep, I think I understand why).durdencommatyler wrote:I'm not sure that I've seen an Ira Sachs film. Re: The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast
The main problem I have with BEE is that he seems to live in a private world that he assumes is public. He speaks in anecdotal terms, cites a circle of friends, and then applies those intimate points of view to the public at large. It's weird. Just because you and your friends have certain perception of the way things are, doesn't mean that's he way things are, B.
Still, at least he's trying to get into things. Even if he's leading at times. He does seem to listen and think. And I like that.
