Selling Vinyl

Post by AlaskaDan »

Hello All! It's been a long while. Good to see some familiar names out and about... I need some help ~ I'm seriously considering selling my vinyl collection. My records have been stored, are virtually unpplayed and I do not envision myself ever using them. The ones that are unsealed were opened for a few spins or a peaksee at the artwork. That being said, I know there are a lot of PJ fans who would probably like to have some of my stuff for their collections and I have an upcoming wedding and honeymoon which would benefit from the extra cabbage. I know what it's like building and maintaining a collection ~ hell, I remember spending months upon months trying to find the Singles soundtrack on wax.

The only barometer I have to price these goodies is Ebay and that seems a bit exorbitant - I've seen some of the asking prices as high as $300 for Binaural, just as an example. On the flip side, I don't want to part with something I've collected for years that is no longer available and sell myself short. Could somebody please give me an idea what these records should fairly fetch???
Also, how can you decipher which printing the record came from?

Here's what I got...

12" LP

Eddie Vedder Into The Wild sealed (first printing)
Riot Act unsealed
Lost Dogs unsealed
Binaural unsealed
No Code unsealed
Yield unsealed

Live On Ten Legs sealed

Honestly, when I did this for a friend, I went to ebay, searched by closed auctions and did an average price based on all of the sales over the last xx amount of time (like 2 years or something) and then offered that amount of money.

That's what I would suggest you do, those numbers don't lie (much), and will probably be the closest you get to an unbiased opinion.

As for the pressings, maybe pjcollectors.com can help you figure out what you have.

There's heaps of sites you can check this out with a bit of basic Googling. Try popsike.com for starters

i.e. this search for Binaural...

You should totally give Live On Two Legs to CHUD. He's earned it.

Priority mail, yeah. You could go media mail (not sure if that is available from Alaska) but I figure for things like records and posters, the less time the USPS has possession of it, the better off it will be and the more likely it will be delivered in the same condition in which it was sent.

The 33s I've sold already were seriously packaged and shipped priority mail which ran a little over $17.00. Like Bee said, the less time in the hands of the postal service the better. I'd ship them cheaper if somebody wanted to go media mail, but the notion of two weeks in the mail is not very palatable.
