I've resisted carpooling for fear of sitting through a Red Hot Chilli Peppers song.
Also, Dave Mathews, The Offspring, and few others that I can't think of because you said Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
I feel like Incubus sits well on that list.

Sublime likes to use a DJ for the sole purpose of scratching too.

How did you do that?

The Black Keys do nothing for me.

and The Smiths. Seems like they would be something I like, but haven't gotten into them much. I haven't tried very hard, though.
Good call on The Smiths.
It took me a while to get into The Smiths. I didn't "get" them at first.
To be fair, much like Burt, I haven't REALLY tried that hard. They have a few songs I really love, but I've listened to maybe three albums from beginning to end and liked it enough not to turn it off.
I think I just really like Johnny Marr but don't like Morrisey's singing.

There are always anomalies but there's nothing I feel I should like. There are pumpkins songs that I quite like but mostly Corgan pisses me off in a major way with his whiney shite. Same with Stipe. But I can reason why I don't like them or can't enjoy them. REM I find enjoyable for a minute or two then utterly unbearable to the point of rage. I can safely say I've never heard more than 4 complete tracks of theirs in a row.

Then take Laura Marling. On paper I would find her unbearable but she is compelling and an absolute must listen artist. Her influences or at least what critics always mention (Joni Mitchell for one), no thank you.

I can understand your reasoning for not liking Billy or Stipe. For some reason I find that it works well. Guess for me they should be in the ' Bands You Totally Get But On Paper Should Be Awful' thread

There are a lot of artists that are widely adored but don't mean anything to me, but if I had to pick one artist that I have been largely baffled by my inability to get into, it would have to be Charles Mingus. He fits right in with many of my other tastes, and a lot of folks whose opinions I trust praise him to the skies. Yet something about his music has always kept me at a distance -- I enjoy it in occasional doses, but I have never felt compelled to really dig deep into his catalog the same way I have with most of his peers. No good reason really -- it just doesn't strike me.

And I totally understand Fugazi. For as uncompromising as it is, I always found their music really unexciting.

Electric Miles for me falls into the category of music I am surprised I like as much as I do.
