I will definitely say that taking some time away from RM has made a number of my general objections to latter-day Pearl Jam feel like not that big of a deal. I mean, there are some songs that just flatly don't do it for me, but I find it easier to focus on the things I like about the music when I'm not reading the same rote criticisms of it on an hourly basis. I would probably say the same thing for music and the internet in general, honestly -- for as much as the internet exposes me to, I also feel like it tempts me to silence some of my instinctive reactions to some things just because my critical senses and surroundings tell me differently. I enjoy that element of listening too but it can suck some of the simple pleasure from it, which is kind of how I processed "Lightning Bolt," which I think offers more to enjoy than I initially let on.

This is an awful lot of Pearl Jam conversation for a baseball simulation message board.

It's the one year anniversary of Pearl Jam soundtracking the postseason

I bet Pearl Jam not soundtracking this postseason affected whether or not some teams even wanted to make it.

I'm surprised they're even bothering with one.

They weren't going to, but Pearl Jam needed something to play on the screen before they took stage in St. Louis to keep Kaius interested.

The Lincoln show really reminded me, again, why i love this band.

I dont care how much unthought known sucks. PJ has put out so much amazing and life altering music for me I dont even care of they put out less than ideal music now (see, i cant even call it crap!)

So, maybe I win.

I know that the last 3 albums, while enjoyable for me, dont stack up to their prior work, and thats okay. Ten-Riot act is a damn untouchable run for me.

What a beaut.

the reason im the biggest fan is because i legit like the music and i dont go to shows to talk about what pants ed wore the night before or a list of songs i hvaent seen yet.

Man, lincoln was totally LOL in that regards. I had warned Rachel about PJ fans for months. She gets there and is like "holy shit. You weren't kidding"

Good times.

I feel like giving Strat a big ol' fist bump through the internet right now.

I'm glad you enjoyed it so much, I very much hope to see these guys play again at least a few more times before they finally hang it up.

We're only about a year away from all agreeing that the 2006 S/T album is one of their best and belongs with the previous 7. Just have to have enough time pass to ignore the production shortcomings and the failed attempt at mainstream appeal, so that we can focus on the actual songs and the last great PJ tour (2006). This is all becoming part of PJ gospel already. It took about 6 or 8 years for both Binaural and Riot Act to reach that level, so we seem to be on schedule for the next one.

Going to be hard to distinguish between Backspacer and Lightning Bolt going forward, though. These are already merging into one album for me, spanning over an 8 year period, exemplifying latter day PJ's self-imposed goal of making music that sounds like PJ.

People have been saying this for like 5 years now and it hasn't happened.

Not for me it didn't. Those were in heavy rotation for me from the day they came out for years afterward. S/T and on were records I listened to a bunch when they came out and then pretty much stopped entirely.

People have to say it for 6 years, man! C'mon. Get with it.
