None of my friends really seem all that into music - so I'm easily the biggest fan of pretty much any of the bands I listen to in my circle of friends

I was honestly curious how many of you are the biggest PJ fan that you know in real life.

Yeah, realistically I am. But I definitely have acquaintances who love Ten and nothing else, but would tell you that since I don't love Ten or consider Pearl Jam to be the greatest American band of all-time that they're much bigger Pearl Jam fans than I am.

I will definitely say that taking some time away from RM has made a number of my general objections to latter-day Pearl Jam feel like not that big of a deal. I mean, there are some songs that just flatly don't do it for me, but I find it easier to focus on the things I like about the music when I'm not reading the same rote criticisms of it on an hourly basis. I would probably say the same thing for music and the internet in general, honestly -- for as much as the internet exposes me to, I also feel like it tempts me to silence some of my instinctive reactions to some things just because my critical senses and surroundings tell me differently. I enjoy that element of listening too but it can suck some of the simple pleasure from it, which is kind of how I processed "Lightning Bolt," which I think offers more to enjoy than I initially let on.

Appreciative of this. I haven't logged in to RM for a long time b/c I don't want to go on a PJ fan site just to hear about how bad PJ have become. Initially I found it so refreshing over here after the pit b/c of the overall level of intelligent, thoughtful commentary... but then it just seemed like no one actually likes PJ, and ultimately I want these types of exchanges for the purpose of sharing my enthusiasm. I have plenty of places I can find clever or clever-by-half insults of things I love.

Yes. I am absolutely the biggest Pearl Jam fan I know in real life. Hands down. Most people I know either don't know they are still a band or think they're a joke and make fun of me. But I've bought tons of merch over the years: shirts, posters, bootlegs (official and unofficial), been a fan club member since 1995, have multiple copies of every album, Benaroya Vinyl, all studio albums on vinyl, only seen them 8 times, but that's WAY more than anyone else I know (except my wife who I've dragged to 5 shows).

So, yeah, while sure I'm not the biggest fan in the world, I'm certainly the biggest I know in real life.

Outside of RM, only one of my mates is a fan of PJ. He's easily a bigger fan than me - based on the memorabilia he owns and the concerts he's attended (probably close to double the amount I've been to).

the reason im the biggest fan is because i legit like the music and i dont go to shows to talk about what pants ed wore the night before or a list of songs i hvaent seen yet.

Man, lincoln was totally LOL in that regards. I had warned Rachel about PJ fans for months. She gets there and is like "holy shit. You weren't kidding"

There WERE people like this. I overheard them while drinking in the railyard. Some dude had a ten minute conversation with another dude about Ed's wardrobe.

Mostly awesome folks though.
