Chalky's fate was sealed the second Narcisse walked through that door. Either Chalky shot him in that room and Narcisse's men took care of him, or Chalky agreed to the terms. But agreeing to the terms always meant getting shot in the alley immediately afterward.

I just wonder if part of the Death of Chalky was handled the way it was as a nod to the complaints of how Omar died.

I seem to remember people being upset how Omar was just gunned down (which to me was perfect.) People were expecting a moment. And for Chalky to be killed, knowing it was coming, facing his killers seemed like a nod. I dunno. just a thought I had. A ceremonial "classy" version of killing Omar.

No doubt. Any other way would have felt phony.

yep, hence my surprise that people complained about it.@SkitchP wrote:numbers wrote:Looking back, the Omar death was perfect.@SkitchP wrote:I just wonder if part of the Death of Chalky was handled the way it was as a nod to the complaints of how Omar died.

I can definitely see how people complained about it. They had built it so that you wanted Omar to get Marlo so bad. It was still perfect though, as it was true to the series.

Omar died exactly the way he should have.@SkitchP wrote:kreng wrote:that would be weird, what kind of complaints were there anyway?

I agree that the Van Alden storyline felt a bit rushed--to be expected though with a truncated season. Would have enjoyed a few more episodes with him and Eli because I thought they were excellent/hilarious together.

So Van Alden basically had a pointless arc unless those ledgers end up bringing Capone down I guess.

Re: HBO: Boardwalk Empire
I would assume that the Capone storyline has concluded as far as this series is concerned. Capone went away in Oct 1931 for tax evasion, the fed's obtained the ledgers after the Van Alden shooting. Despite his flip flopping between righteous prohibition agent and stone gangster, Van Alden was actually successful in the end in bringing down Capone. Was bittersweet seeing him go, though, Michael Shannon really nailed that role--I thought he was the funniest character on the show, too.
