But, as someone who loves Pop, i remember being really bummed out when they released All that you cant leave behind and began to embrace "America" after 9/11...that approach, and the fact that rolling stone and every mayor magazine was putting them in the spot again, messed up the music to me. I couldnt listen to them, or see their videos...i hated Bono.

With How to dismantle...i guess i began to separate all those things from the music they were doing. Yes, they were awful songs, yes, they seemed to need to record with pretty much every new pop idol around that time; but there was also new and exiting music too.

Ive said it before but POP was their biggest grab for relevance in their entire career..trying to co-opt the dance/club culture purely because they owned a nightclub in dublin and felt the culture shift its focus..

sadly, that didnt translate in the US whatsoever.

I'm always amazed that the band that could do Joshua Tree had an Achtung Baby in them, and with only one album in between. It was a complete re-invention.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

So a lot of non-U2 fans I know are raving about the acoustic songs on the bonus disc, consensus is they're better than the album versions.

Anyone heard them yet? I won the cd of a radio station, waiting for it to arrive before I hear them.

Oh, yeah. They're real wizzes. Nine billion comments on the album, and maybe 17 of them are about music. I fail to see how that is anything but the exact mirror of 80% of what they hate about Bono.

Oh, I guess this guy's talking about the music:
You must be joking? You need to broaden your comparisons my friend! Compare this bono guys so called talents with real, genuine music writers/vocals from the glorious 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s for example.
Yes. Compare this Bono guy to the greats of the 80's....

This right here is what PJ are lacking at the moment.
In 2011, U2 were working on three different albums simultaneously: the never-completed Songs of Ascent; a more electronic record with Lady Gaga producer RedOne; and another with Black Keys and Gnarls Barkley producer Danger Mouse. They decided, says Clayton, that they had “run out of road” with their semi-regular collaborators Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois and needed another reboot like 1991’s Achtung Baby or 2000’s All That You Can’t Leave Behind. “We needed to reinvent and revitalise.”

“The easiest thing would be a greatest hits tour,” says Mullen. “We could do that for years. I just wasn’t prepared to go down in flames on the last record. This is not the way to finish your career. Go out with something that you really believe in. There were questions like: can we do this? Is it possible for us?”

I used to hate those. So many of the password questions they want to use, I either don't know the answer, simply don't have an answer for, or have several answers that might work.

So I always just choose three random questions and put the same answer to each. "fuck you." That way I don't end up going "Fuck...which street did I put for this when I set it up?"

Fuck you is my password password.

Every now and then, a place will tell me my password questions can't have the same answer. Doesn't happen much.

Confusing choices...some of the songs on the bonus disc are better than some of those on the album..
