Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
I forgot how much i love the first 4 tracks o this one. Getaway , MYM and FS are great examples of what i love in this band. Specially MYM, thats how they should approach rock this days.
Yeah, Getaway could sound more dirtier but its been a while since this guys did that.

Those 3 have really held up after a solid year of listening. GSMF>Got Some got old for me, but Getaway, MYM, FS still have the same punch I felt 12 months ago. Maybe the best opening 3 since Vitalogy.VinylGuy wrote:I forgot how much i love the first 4 tracks o this one. Getaway , MYM and FS are great examples of what i love in this band. That's a bold statement. I don't even think it's in contention.

Man, there's nothing better than coming home from a long day, changing out of your work clothes, putting your feet up, and logging into RM knowing there's ranking to be done.

Riot Act could be #1 if I'm in that mood.

I think a night of ranking would definitely improve my mood. I'm gonna start a "Rank Anything You'd Like" thread.stip wrote:Man, there's nothing better than coming home from a long day, changing out of your work clothes, putting your feet up, and logging into RM knowing there's ranking to be done.

Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
I've listened to this maybe three times this year (including just now), and the best I can say for it is that it has an almost complete lack of impact on me.
My experience:
1.Getaway starts, and I think its nice enough.
2.I get bored by the time MYM starts. I check my email, fight about movies on RM, etc...
3.The awfulness of Future Days jars me back into the chilling reality that I'm actually listening to a Post Riot Act Moneygrab™ era album, and I quickly turn it off.
4.I wonder what happened to my life, particularly the last 45 minutes.

Well, at least you stole the music and didn't have to buy it, right?BurtReynolds wrote:I've listened to this maybe three times this year (including just now), and the best I can say for it is that it has an almost complete lack of impact on me.

Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
Thought I'd give this a spin just to feel a part of this here community. Couldn't find my copy, didn't have a ripped copy, eventually found it packed away. It'll be going back there this weekend.
Getaway - 3* at best track that is interesting enough but I don't want to hear it again for quite awhile. Coming out of it I expected the MFS intro so I skipped MYM. Plus I don't really like MYM so nothing lost there.
MFS - Quite an interesting song considering the album it's from and its placement up front. It almost rocks but feels a bit self conscious.
Sirens - And here the toms get their fill of reverb. Holy hell Matt has been transported. At least they're not heavily gated too. This song is okay but I don't like PJ doing it. It doesn't feel right. Mike nails the appropriate solo. The acoustic isn't warm enough, too much treble/attack and too bright.
LB - skipped
Infallible - So promising until that chorus. This whole songs feels forced and live versions don't improve it. It had potential.
Pendulum - see above.
Swallowed Whole - Production murders this track. I now want to hear a live version to see if it improves it. There are nice ideas and performances here.
LTRP - go fuck yourself.
SBM - nice enough but again the acoustic guitars aren't warm enough
Yellow Moon - see above. Good song, maybe dull sometimes but I enjoyed a fair bit. Found myself wanting a warm acoustic ep of Sirens, SWhole, SBM and Yellow Moon.
FDays - Bland monotonous bullshit. Why did the piano feature at all. This got me so low I listened to LBolt to see if I could finally appreciate it.
Lightning Bolt - This still fails to have an impact on me. I feel that it fails to climb where it was intended to climb. It tries so hard but doesn't get there Matt pushes and pulls, Ed strains and ultimately it is just a flat and rather boring track. I prefer Unthought Known every day of the week as it grew and didn't feel like it was straining to be something.
This album has 3 of the worst PJ studio songs on it. It has very little flow and it feels like a showreel or supposed highlights package. The second half in particular is atrocious foe flow. The production choices baffle me on nearly every song. It feels like pieces of recordings have been stitched together in the hope that a record will happen. Bo'B needs a rest.
