I just changed my vote and made Pendulum the first 5-star song Pearl Jam has produced since "Given to Fly." They've produced some very strong 4-star songs in between, but based on the following, Pendulum rises to "rare airspace" in my book:

1. LIVE version is killer. We finally have a new opener that Ed can pull off.

2. Repeat plays. I'm still able to play this song way too often over the past year and still enjoy it.

3. Music and Lyrics. While the lyrics are simple, and easily open to criticism (well documented by resident RM poets) I never felt that the strength of the band was Ed and his typewriter....it's truly the musicians and Ed's voice acting as another instrument, as he does so well here (love the ah ah ahs at the end...finally, a new original projection from Ed.).

This is a banner day. It's been 15 years (98 - 13), but they've finally produced a 5-star song, at least in my book, which is really the only one that counts in my mind. :)

Yeah, it's really come into its own as an opener.

Sounded great opening the show in St. Louis -- definitely works better as a warm-up number than as an album centerpiece. For functional purposes it is probably their best new opener since "Of the Girl."

It is a 5 star piece of warm-up music.

It is a 4 star Pearl Jam moment

It is a 3 star actual song.

The fact that the boots sound so good might be making Pendulum an even better opener...the only thing I don't like about this song is spelling it. I always have to double check to make sure it's right.

its incredible live. ed's vocals in concert are super strong at the beginning, and when they open with this it sounds even better than the record. this thread pretty much defines RM for me though. it seemed everyone loved it at first, then it turned into like 6 pages of bitching about the vocal effect going into the guitar solo. its the best pearl jam song in over a decade.

I cant decide whether I like this or Parachutes as the best PJ song post-Riot Act.

"We are here and then we go" is a pretty hilarious line

Cold Confession is the best post-RA PJ song.

There's nothing there that deserves to be crowned the 'best' of anything.

i like the "i'm in the fire but i'm still cold" line, but i'm not sure this is the right place to post this opinion.

its really all about vocal delivery for me in this song, though. my favorite vocals are the "ah ah ah"'s at the end. thats also why its awesome live.

I think it'd be cool if they extended it in a live setting, much more music, a little more Ed. I'm pissed that I missed this one live, but the boots are good.
