I think Unthought Known is head and shoulders above Lightning Bolt.
As for the album itself - I'm still really enjoying it

You just made Eddie Vedder and the Pearl Jams $0.071 or so richer. Congrats.BurtReynolds wrote:Spotify. My experience:
1.Getaway starts, and I think its nice enough.
2.I get bored by the time MYM starts. I check my email, fight about movies on RM, etc...
3.The awfulness of Future Days jars me back into the chilling reality that I'm actually listening to a Post Riot Act Moneygrab™ era album, and I quickly turn it off.
4.I wonder what happened to my life, particularly the last 45 minutes.

A year later My Father's Son is still my favorite LB track, by a mile.

Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
This album has held up very well for me. I still play it at least 1-2 times per month.
The first three tracks are fun and up-tempo enough to grab my attention each listen, but then I really get into the 2nd half of the album. Everything but LTRP really.
Favourites are still: Yellow Moon, Swallowed Whole and Sirens. Meanwhile, I was iffy on LB at first but I really dig the title track now.

i listened to lightning bolt two or three times all the way through, shortly after it was released. the only song i can distinctly remember is sleeping by myself. not because it's particularly good, but because it was a break from the formless mid-tempo sludge of the songs surrounding it.

The second part is too mid tempo for me. Thats the main drag; songs like SW or Ltrp needed to more rocking.

i think they need to less rocking, in general.VinylGuy wrote:The second part is too mid tempo for me. Thats the main drag; songs like SW or Ltrp needed to more rocking.
i mean, would it kill them to go acoustic? they have all the energy and rebellion of family men in their 50s. they need to stick to campfire songs like 'drifting.'

While i get that; the energy from the first 3 songs is something i want to hear in a full album.Alex wrote:i think they need to less rocking, in general.VinylGuy wrote:The second part is too mid tempo for me. Thats the main drag; songs like SW or Ltrp needed to more rocking.

Yeah, I might like Unthought Known better. But it would be close. Neither do much for me in terms of Pearl Jam songs, though.

There's something about Unthought Known that I really like - it's lacking in Lightning Bolt.durdencommatyler wrote:Song to song?Rangi Guy wrote:I think Unthought Known is head and shoulders above Lightning Bolt.

sometimes i feel like the pearl jam forum is a creation of my psyche, in which i've created hundreds of strangers--characters who take the opposite position to mine in matters regarding pearl jam, for reasons unthought known.

Listening to Sirens on the LB live comp that Ridleybradout put together, I can confidently say I'm a fan of this song.
