Hey doug. I'm rooting for the Royals, too, but I don't have to blow anyone if they lose. I'm sorry this is happening to you. Good luck!doug rr wrote:hey argo

Re: MLB
I heard this yesterday as well. However, if the Cards make it Pierzynski will probably be on the 25 man. Also, Hudson played a little in 1999. Amazing stat nonetheless. I remember watching Hudson in Omaha when he played at Auburn as an All American pitcher/DH.numbers wrote:For the first time ever, there will be a team in the World Series without any players who played in the 20th century.

My bad. Crazy nonetheless. Gordon, Guthrie and Butler are like the Royals "veterans"?

That's an awesome bit of trivia. When do you all think we'll have the last World Series with any 20th-century players?

I was about to say, "No, probably sooner," because 2021 seems so far into the future. But after I realized that that's only 6+ years away, that sounds like a good guess to me.cutuphalfdead wrote:Probably 2021.Simple Torture wrote:That's an awesome bit of trivia. God this makes me feel old.numbers wrote:Well Gordon's been around since what 07? That's a decent amount of time.
Part of me will always see him as the floppy haired 14 year old phenom who hit leadoff for us in 1999.

It continues to amaze me that Major League managers can be so oblivious to to the most basic concepts of how to manage a baseball team on the field.

I mean... at least in the regular season, as stupid as it is, they're pitching to the save. But how can someone possibly do the same in a do-or-die playoff game?cutuphalfdead wrote:Yeah I lol'd at that response too.philpritchard wrote:cutuphalfdead wrote:Deadspin is right. Matheny fucked this up.

Can teams not afford to provide coaching staff with a weekend seminar on the basics of in-game management?

Re: MLB
Amazing how random the baseball playoffs are...and guys who put up zero stats in the regular season end up being playoff heroes.
Way more than any other sport except for maybe extra time in soccer where some random dude is in the right place at the right time.
