Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015)
And in the two minutes that I've spent really thinking this through, I think Luke being evil is weirder than Vader coming back somehow. I don't like either really, but I could see Vader coming back and working more easily than I could see Luke starting out or even becoming evil in Episode VII.
Well, maybe there could be a cool way to turn Luke over the coarse of the new trilogy. Maybe. I don't know. I have to think about this some more. Sorry to have wasted your time.

Saw this elsewhere and liked it
The more and more I hear of Spoiler:
Iif the sequel trilogy really is about "philosophical issues" as George Lucas claimed so long ago, it could depict the debate between utilitarian ethics of the end justifying the means, versus Kant's categorical imperative ethics whereby acts that are wrong are wrong, no matter what the outcome is. If they can pull that off in an action-adventure fantasy story in a way that is palatable FOR CHILDREN, they could produce something really interesting!
Christ it looks amazing anyway, JJ is nailing this so effin hard.

Maybe Luke is still struggling with Daddy issues and to figure out why Daddy was such a mean old man, he puts on the mask, and slowly he becomes obsessed with the idea of "Like father, like son"

Did you guys never read "Dark Empire"? I wonder how much is being mined from sources like that.

I kinda dont care if he mines that stuff, as long as he doesnt screw with established canon, like he did with star trek

Care to explore what you mean by "established canon" here? Because, I mean, that word is pretty fluid in the Star Wars world.dimejinky99 wrote:I kinda dont care if he mines that stuff, as long as he doesnt screw with established canon, like he did with star trek

There is a similar rule for things called _____80, so this has to be the worst thing ever.
