I saw them probably 7-10 times from 1997-2003. It was always a blast. I haven't been able to afford seeing them since then though.

If cheap, decent tickets fall into my lap, I'll probably think about it.

It's two days before my birthday, so it'd be kind of a fun thing to do.

I guess.

Spenno why do you feel the need to undercut every expression of even tentative enthusiasm with an "I guess"

A form of steeling myself against future disappointment, perhaps.

You honestly don't like songs like Shine a Light, Moonlight Mile, Stray Cat Blues, Monkey Man, Dead Flowers, Rocks Off, Soul Survivor, Sway, Salt of the Earth, etc.?
I like Moonlight Mile. I have no knowledge of those others as far as I know.

And yes, I'm aware that I'm not Kevin Davis. No matte how badly I wish I were.
Rocks off is maybe my favorite stones song

The Stones are not, and have never been, a truly great live band. They are not much more than a spectacle at this point. Since the late 60's, Jagger has been more interested in wiggling his ass than singing properly, and they don't have a coherent, recognizable "sound" in a live setting. Their best albums and the sound they are known for were helped along by the excellent production of Jimmy Miller and Chris Kimsey, and the ever-lasting influence of Ry Cooder. Other than that they're just a shitty garage band. But that run of albums from 1968-1972 are unbeatable as far as rock & roll music goes, and the "Some Girls" and "Tattoo You" albums were brilliant attempts at keeping up with the times, compared to how other rock bands were doing at the time. There is some really, really great music on those two albums.

We've had this thread before and the correct answer is The Steve Miller Band. Even if we can't stand them.

I can't believe peope who would call Pearl Jam records great could dismiss the band that made Exile on Main Street and Let it Bleed as a greatest hits package type of group.

Oh wait.

Soundgarden doesn't belong in this thread. Neither do the Stones.

Maybe some people's perception of the Stones as a "Greatest Hits" band is aided by the fact that they have so many Greatest Hits compilations.

This is sort of where I was going with my lists. A greatest hits band, to me, is a band where there's no or limited potential for greater depth of work beneath that initial shimmery surface. Not a band where you go "I sure do like a lot of your hits but what are odds I'd like one more song on the album?"

GH packages are the "let's just sit around and watch tv all night" of music listening. They're best used in limited fashion.

Like the Steve Miller Band.

I know! It's totally absurd how different people prefer different things. It's just fucking stupid.
