It's funny, New Order, The Cure, Depeche Mode, and Duran Duran (to a much lesser extent) were all bands I was very well-versed in (and in the case of the first three, went through obsessive phases with) before I discovered Simple Minds' back catalog. After falling in love with SM's 1980-1984 output, I never felt the same way about any of those acts again.
Either way, that's pretty awesome that you took the time to listen and post some thoughts. You're a good man, PryTo.
I was able to give this a listen this morning. Definitely not my cup of tea (I don't like the singer at all), and the bands I can most readily connect to them are not really in my musical wheelhouse. The fact bass and feel of some of those songs also reminds me a bit of some War era U2, if it was just a little more synth oriented.

I could never really get into: Foo Fighters, Radiohead (although I like Thom Yorke), Bruce Springsteen or Billy Joel.

Thin Lizzy and the Blue Oyster Cult are phenomenal bands with rich and engrossing catalogs.

A friend of mine tried to sell me on BOC last year. I listened to a few of the albums several times each, but in the end they just didn't do it for me.

Any record whose opening song announces "I want to do it to your daughter on a dirt road," and then plans international espionage, is pretty great.

It looks like Secret Treaties, Agents of Fortune, Spectres, and Mirrors are the ones I've heard.

I don't care for Agents. Specters is pretty great soft pop, but Treaties is like Kiss meets the Flaming Lips, with a touch of Zep
