Only ever seen one disappointing PJ show and it wasn't just me, everyone I knew there that night left going 'wtf was that?', but in their defence, it was a shithole town(Manchester in England 2012 i think) and first night of the tour. The following night in the same venue was stellar.

I was at that show too, the first time I've been disinterested during a PJ show. It was the first of 6 shows I attended on that leg and by far the worst (didn't attend Night 2 in Manchester, sadly). A full cover of Why Can't I Touch it? is not something anyone needs. Me and a friend had a better time in the pub across the road afterwards with a couple of great Scottish guys we met.dimejinky99 wrote:Only ever seen one disappointing PJ show and it wasn't just me, everyone I knew there that night left going 'wtf was that?', but in their defence, it was a shithole town(Manchester in England 2012 i think) and first night of the tour. Why do people think Wrigley was anything special? Have seen 18 PJ shows and that was the only one to ever disappoint. More than a dozen friends we were with felt the same. Thank god they were all in Moline for redemption.

There really wasn't anything wrong with their performance.15showsandcounting wrote:Why do people think Wrigley was anything special? Wrigley is far and away my least favorite Pearl Jam show I've ever seen.CopperTom wrote:There really wasn't anything wrong with their performance.15showsandcounting wrote:Why do people think Wrigley was anything special? Honestly, the rain delay didn't bug me that much. I didn't think the show was off to a great start, so it seemed like a chance to redeem a weak opening.

I have similar feelings. They had a chance to do something epic. But, when they returned, they never got the crowd back. I felt like a lot of it was song choice. And then I heard Future Days while in the concourse and recognized the t-shirts already had the set list on the back of them. It was so upsetting. I'm listening to Ed sing Top 40 country and looking at this shirt that tells me I'm listening to some prepackaged Pearl jam show. I wanted to cry. Like, really. Instead, I just said "fuck" a few times and that was that.Lament wrote:Honestly, the rain delay didn't bug me that much. Well, given that the show was supposed to start at 7:30 and they knew that rain was coming, it was pretty inexcusable of them to saunter out on stage an hour late. They could have gotten the entire first set in by the time the rain hit.

Yup, that was my main gripe. They could have played the original set and not played till 2:00 if they came on early.Chris_H_2 wrote:Well, given that the show was supposed to start at 7:30 and they knew that rain was coming, it was pretty inexcusable of them to saunter out on stage an hour late. There were probably still 8,000 people in line outside for merch at 7:30 though.

Fun fact: Wrigley Field was the first time someone singled me out for being "From RM" and treated me with disdain on account of it. I was still relatively unknown on here at the time. I guess that's where the line in the sand was drawn.

Re: 2014-10-20: Milwaukee, WI
Wrigley will always be a strong memory, and I thought they played great with what they played. I really liked hearing a couple new songs, even if by the end of the 2nd one I was already bored by it.
I pretty much loved the opening songs up until Come Back. I went to take a piss, because it seemed like a good opportunity. By the time I came back before Small Town (I think) he was saying something about rain and a delay.
I loved the Ernie Banks thing and, while I'm not really a Cubs fan, that video they played during Ed's song was pretty great for the thousands of Cubs fans who were actually there. Most of which probably liked the Cubs much more than Pearl Jam.
My only complaint was not realizing you could leave and come back in during the rain delay. Oh, and it took them way too long to get back on stage. So, two complaints.
Oh, and why pick Rockin the free world to close with, when you know you only have one left. Really, that's the one you try and squeeze in? Yeah, three complaints.

Meh.
One of the few great studio songs that they just can't play right live.

Ha. Almost the same thing happened to me with the couple I got my ticket from. They were all cool-nice-to-meet-you until they asked about my username on the pit and I said "oh, I usually don't post there. I'm more on RM..." and that was the end of that budding friendship. Still got that ticket though.Lament wrote:Fun fact: Wrigley Field was the first time someone singled me out for being "From RM" and treated me with disdain on account of it. Jesus. No wonder the shirts are like $50-200 on ebay. I really want the baseball one but not for $75.Lament wrote:There were probably still 8,000 people in line outside for merch at 7:30 though.
