Shots fired, eh?
Not sure if there are any RMers based in Ottawa, but stay safe, ya'll.

That's what initial reports said, but based on previous experience, I wouldn't be surprised if that number comes down.Biff Pocoroba wrote:Three separate shootings?

Re: Shots fired, eh?
3 locations that are all very close together - whether they are from 3 separate incidents is still unclear. From what I understand it started with a passenger getting out of a car and opening fire on a soldier at a war memorial, who then ran a short distance to the Parliament building where the original car/driver had stopped. It seems as though a suspect was gunned down by police inside Parliament. So one or more gunmen in the building? There were then later reports of gunfire at a nearby shopping centre, which is about a block from the original site where the soldier was shot.Biff Pocoroba wrote:Three separate shootings?
here's raw video of the gunfire from within Parliament.

Re: Shots fired, eh?
It sounds like there was no shooting at the Rideau Centre now, and the soldier who was shot has apparently died. Horrible, horrible news.
It looks likened an RCMP press conference will be happening soon.

This is the kind of hatred Harper brings. He just pisses the world off. Russia imposed trade sanctions on us, because of his big mouth.

We're both the shooter and the driver in the other incident Qubecers? Maybe it's not Harper so much but that darned Anglo cultural hegemony.

Apparently the Ottawa guy once lived in Montreal - the driver was def a quebecer but both had become ISIS afficionados so I'm quite sure it had nothing to do with the french/anglo thing.simple schoolboy wrote:We're both the shooter and the driver in the other incident Qubecers? It must be remembered that a bit more than a year ago, some dude tried to shoot the then-newly-elected Quebec prime minister (the Parti Quebecois leader Pauline Marois, who was, incidentally, the first woman to hold this position here) but ended up killing a sound tech instead. His agenda was pretty clear - he was against francophones. Of course, that was not handled as a terrorism act. Federalist news outlets prefered to called the shooter "a troubled lover of the great Canada".
Harper did change Canada's role in world affairs, turning the traditionnally humanitarian role of the army into a completely biaised and belligerent organization. I don't mean to justify this week attacks but to see this as a surprise is pretty fucking naive.

Pointing to an insane shooter to support policy changes is a failing strategy. The attempted shooter of the Quebec Prime Minister claimed that Jesus told him to do so. I'd love a follow up article, fuck, I'd love to be wrong, but I'd wager he's just nuts. And damn it, scrolling through more than three Google pages makes it obscure in my book.mastaflatch wrote:Apparently the Ottawa guy once lived in Montreal - the driver was def a quebecer but both had become ISIS afficionados so I'm quite sure it had nothing to do with the french/anglo thing.simple schoolboy wrote:We're both the shooter and the driver in the other incident Qubecers? I'm not sure what is being argued here but Quebec doesn't have it's own Prime Minister, it has a Premier, like all the other provinces. I have not heard if they've discovered a motive for the Ottawa guy other than psychological.simple schoolboy wrote:Pointing to an insane shooter to support policy changes is a failing strategy. In french, they're called prime ministers. as in provincial prime ministers.doone wrote:I'm not sure what is being argued here but Quebec doesn't have it's own Prime Minister, it has a Premier, like all the other provinces. I think that the three of them are religion motivated nutjobs but then, I think that most killers are somewhat nuts. The troubling details in these are the targets, hence the political recuperation that happens (or didn't in the case of Marois). You shouldn't be considered nuts if Jesus told you to do it but a terrorist if Allah did.
