When PJ became a world hit very few were aware of them in Greece. Even though Mtv Europe was on, free and fond of PJ at the time. Somehow it didn't click. Mainstream rock,punk and heavy metal music, were popular amongst youngsters, yet the so called Seattle scene or other alternative bands (that had become widely known),or things such as the riot grrrl movement, never had a part in the early 90's urban Balkan novelties from which Athens suffered. For instance,I attended a 1500 students high school,in the center of the capital and my only PJ friends were two guys three schools away. Even after Cobain's death, when learning the word ''grunge'' was inevitable, no band from that era established a wider audience. The pick of their ''success'' was between '95-'99, when in some alleged underground rock clubs/radio stations you could listen the trilogy ''come as you are'', ''would?'', ''even flow''.
Anything that happened after Vs is blurry. So Greeks don't know much PJ, some only know ten, those who are aware of the band only like ten and we are about 112 of the others

The Greek Resistance against the nazi Occupation (1941-1944), one of the most powerful and efficient in Europe, was mainly conducted by Communists. The resistance wasn't happening by the national army, (which most of its leadership collaborated with the occupier) but from the National Liberation Front (Ε.Α.Μ.) and Greek People's Liberation Army (Ε.Λ.Α.Σ) which were formed by the Communist Party and were manned by thousands of Greek women and men.On the Greek mountains simultaneously with the straggle against nazism, the birth of the different society was prepared. Every village that was liberated began operating under communistic principles. After the Liberation, U.S.S.R. excluded Greece from its sphere of influence,so we were part of the British interests,who wanted to reestablish monarchy and create an urban government under their absolute control. That inevitable led to civil war, between the People who formed the Democratic Army of Greece (Δ.Σ.Ε.) and the British, the Americans and the national army full with former soldiers, policemen that worked with Gestapo.The right wing prevailed, so a relentless pursuit of the defeated started, with executions, imprisonment,exile, political persecutions for many years. The protectorate the British created, with unstable pseudo-democracy suffered also a 7 year military junta (1967-1974)with similar persecutions,tortures etc.The urban democracy was established in 1974 with neoliberalism as economical model.The differences between right-left are deep, crucial and bloodstained,especially now days with the rise of the nazi party(the grandchildren of the invaders collaborators).
So,to our point, the Greek flag has not been used as a symbol of patriotism and liberation (there is never a positive use of a flag in my opinion, but let's say), it's been used as a propaganda weapon from right wing against all the traitors.
