Did they have enough for a double? I mean, they probably got closer on Binaural than they ever did, but I'm not sure they had quite that much material, at least that we know of.

They should have wrote a few more songs, turned Foldback or Thunderclap into something, etc. But most importantly, they should have completely bought into, and trusted, Tchad Blake.

I think the original (Gods' Dice-less) tracklisting is really the best presentation of that material, I really enjoy the (quite daring for Pearl Jam) upside/downside feel.

Yeah, I really love the idea behind it. Just for me at least, in practice, piling them one on top of each other left be a bit cold.

I get that, I just find it to be more of a glaring missed opportunity because you kind of see what they almost had the balls to really do.

I actually put together an expanded Of the Girl by splicing in a bit of the instrumental take, and I was listening to it for some time like this:

I haven't listened for a loooong time, but tonight I replaced Insignificance with the Tchad Blake mix (why I hadn't before, I dunno) and Sad/Breakerfall/Light Years with the Tchad Blake unmastered cuts from this deluxe work, and I'm planning on listening tomorrow. I hadn't decided about the TB Education mix, because it seems to have suffered the most for not being mastered, but I think I'll put it in just for the atmosphere, "panting dog" maracas, and horn-like guitar snorts in the second verse.

Whenever it gets brought up I get excited because its my favorite post about the recording session. But, then I get bummed, not by what was released, but by the bigger picture stuff McP pointed out.

Give it a couple of listens - startling difference from the original at first but once that is out of your mind I think every transition is as good if not better than the original

Im not a huge fan of this original tracklist. The flow isnt as interesting. In theory it seems nice having all of those moody pieces clumped at the end but in play it just doesnt have the same effect.

I truly believe what bInaural became was the best choice.

Agreed. I mean, I would have loved it if they could have shoehorned "Sad" and "Fatal" in there somehow but what they released is fine. I cannot abide by the album ending with anything other than "Parting Ways"...it just doesn't seem right.

I think the best option would have been a single in 2001. Double a-side, Sad/Fatal, would have been cool.
