is this where you proclaim the ultimate superiority of Deep Space 9 over all other Star Trek series or does that happen in some other thread?LoathedVermin72 wrote:I've been watching a lot of Star Trek lately. Every series.

I finally got around to watching the first episode of True Detective. Holy crap, what miserable, boring garbage.

Re: What are you currently watching on TV?
I would probably fall into that category for the most part, even though there are certainly a lot of TV shows I like. It just doesn't compare to movies for me. I was looking forward to TD, though, because I knew how cinematic it was supposed to be and I love Cary Joji Fukunaga's movies. Well, I will give it this much: it definitely feels cinematic. It feels like a movie. ...A really shitty movie. The writing is fucking abysmal.BurtReynolds wrote:Are you one of those "I hate tv" guys?LoathedVermin72 wrote:I finally got around to watching the first episode of True Detective. Re: What are you currently watching on TV?
I used to be that way. Now given the choice, I'd probably take watching a tv show over a movie nine times out of ten.
Which reminds me. I'm stoked for new episodes of Always Sunny and Portlandia tomorrow. I think I might hold off on starting Boardwalk Empire until I catch up on work.

You can point to Godzilla as a masterpiece, but dismiss True Detective. Then cite it's writing? I had to assume you were kidding.LoathedVermin72 wrote:As always, your points are so insightful, Skitch.

Arbitrarily listing things I like and dislike is not an argument, man. Perhaps I value different things in film and TV than you do? I'm not going to laugh at you for having opinions that are different from my own, though.@SkitchP wrote:You can point to Godzilla as a masterpiece, but dismiss True Detective. Then cite it's writing? I know. That's kinda how I feel. I know he's not an idiot. And he seems legitimately passionate. But something feels not right.

i saw that godzilla vs. monster zero was on netflix last night and i thought of LV and a wave of sullenness washed over me. i don't like it when RM invades my personal life like that.
