commando has nick tortelli as the bad guy which i couldn't buy. chris martin in running man was an odd choice. of course predator trumps them both. to this day my brother and i use 'whats got billy so spooked' with full accent whenever we can.

I probably would have voted for Running Man years ago. But, wow, its really beyond unwatchable now. And, while Commando featured my boyhood crush, Alyssa Milano, it too suffers from unrewatchabilitis.

The nod, therefore, goes to Predator. Hard not to enjoy a movie with Apollo Creed in it.

but why did he just stand there before he got killed? the predator was like 30 yards away. carl could have hid behind a tree at least but no he just shoots his guns til his arm falls off.

despite it being frustrating, its still a laughably good scene

I'm assuming The Terminator is unfuckwithable and its place at No. 1 on everyone's '80s movie list is just a foregone conclusion.

Molly was somewhere between bangable and hot (but probably closer to bangable). I think Ally falls short of bangable, sorry.

Predator is a great genre movie. Maybe one of the best. Commando is fun enough but fairly forgettable. Running Man, I haven't seen in well over a decade, but I remember liking it more than Commando; certainly less than Predator.

Total Recall, I've never finished. I've tried to watch it about a dozen times and I always fall asleep.

Robocop, I've never understood the love for. I kinda hate it.

Terminator is awesome. Just awesome.

Short Circuit is hilarious and terrible in all the best ways. One of my all time favorite 80's flicks.

Ally is a better actress than Molly.

Terminator doesnt hold up as well as Predator and Aliens, IMO. Robocop has kinda taken its place for me, though i view it as more of a satire (an extemely violent one) than a straight action flick.

Robocop is definitely satire. I just don't find it particularly effective satire. But I'm in the minority. Most of friends love the hell out of it. Just never resonated with me. Maybe the violence gets in the way? Or maybe it's just too absurd on some level? Not sure. But that's why I keep going back to it again and again. I want to understand why I dislike it when so many people that I respect (and share common interests with) love it.

Alien is definitely a better film than Terminator. And Predator for that matter. To me Alien, though clearly a genre film, is good enough to surmount its genre. It's a great movie, not just a great "sci-fi" movie. Predator, for me, is a great "action" movie, but I don't think it's a great movie. It's great in the context of it's genre, not in general. It's a fun movie, sure. But I wouldn't rank it among the top 300 or 400 movies ever made.

I think Terminator splits the difference between Alien and Predator.

Oh yeah Alien is definately better than all these, but i was talking about the sequel, which is just a great action movie.. Unfortunately, I saw Aliens before Alien, so it ruined a lot of it for me, but now I can appreciate it even without the suprise factor.

Terminator can be a little tough to watch now because of the stop motion effects and bad make up. its not that big a deal though. its still fun. Aliens has a couple of man in suit moments, but its not too noticeable.

I can't believe there's not more love for The Terminator here. It and Escape from New York are my favorite '80s action movies.
The Terminator has to be one of the most "watchable" movies ever made. The pacing is just perfect. The tension never lets up. The kinda love story between Sarah and Kyle is poignant without being super cheesy. Arnold is great because he's playing a cyborg and his voice and robotic acting totally works. The score is fucking awesome, without being overwhelming. The dialog is perfect for this kind of movie, it's simple and never really tries too hard. I'd like to watch it right now.
