Re: MLB
I know you are a hater. I think he'd be an upgrade in RF over anything we have internally right now. We have a kid name Smolinski in our org but he is a 4th OF I think. Maybe Choice turns the corner? I hope so but who knows. We have a couple kids (Williams and Brinson) who are probably not going to be ready until 2016-2017. I'm all for Hunter on a 1 year deal. Obviously nothing crazy.@SkitchP wrote:Torii Hunter is worse than Pablo, btw

Torii Hunter was probably the worst defensive RF in the major league this season. And that is not hyperbole.
Okay, looked it up. 2nd worst.

Re: MLB
I'm not saying he is great. Even good. Upgrade over Choice/Smolinski/Jim Adduci for 2015? Yes. I'm really hoping the light comes on with Michael Choice. I think highly of him but he was very overwhelmed last year. I really like Smolinski but not sure he is ready for 500 PAs in the majors.@SkitchP wrote:BigRedLedbetter wrote:I know you are a hater. Re: MLB
Don't like the fancy new fangled WAR for defense?
He had the second worst fielding percentage- and was .001 from the bottom over.... Alex Rios. He was flat out BAD out there. Not a "better than the number show" bad,or a "going to get better" bad. It was an abortion to watch him play defense.

I can't stand Rios. Glad he won't be back.

He's basically a younger Torii Hunter at this point. Watching Torii day in and day out on defense the past 2 years has been painful.

Rios would cost a lot more money. Probably.@SkitchP wrote:BigRedLedbetter wrote:I have not dissected it I guess.@SkitchP wrote:Don't like the fancy new fangled WAR for defense?

I was basically begging for that.
and a decent OF would have had that.

Re: MLB
Sandoval is a good enough third baseman that you lose a ton of his value by signing him to DH.

Agreed. It's so foolish when teams pay a guy a premium because of the numbers he puts up at his particular position, when they arent likely to play that position for the length of the deal.philpritchard wrote:Sandoval is a good enough third baseman that you lose a ton of his value by signing him to DH.

Basically, yeah. Tigers Outfield defense was so. so. so. bad last year. Getting a D-first CF is fine with me.
