Re: 2014 NFL Season
Falcons are 4-0 against the NFC South, and the last time people cried about this the 7-9 team ran over the wild card team that played in the game. See Lynch, Marshawn.
There is some bad team design in the division and lord knows Id fire Dirk Koetter and Thomas Dimitroff a long time ago, but, the division is this bad mostly due to injury.
This happens once every 5 years. It is what it is.

I have no problem with the Division format. It happens. It's how virtually all sports work. Dont like it? Then you should be for the total elimination of divisions and the rivalries that go with them.

Can we at least stop awarding teams a home playoff game for winning a shitty division?

If the saints got in that way it would only be fair, since they got beat by the Seahawks that year.

Because we wouldn't send an 11-5 team to a 7-9 team under any other circumstance?@SkitchP wrote:Why?Green Habit wrote:Can we at least stop awarding teams a home playoff game for winning a shitty division?

But this is the circumstance that has existed among all sports since the playoffs have existed, right?
Why have divisional play if there is not a tangible benefit to winning that division?

Well you do get a playoff birth. That's enough.@SkitchP wrote:Green Habit wrote:Because we wouldn't send an 11-5 team to a 7-9 team under any other circumstance?@SkitchP wrote:Why?Green Habit wrote:Can we at least stop awarding teams a home playoff game for winning a shitty division?

meh. Ive never liked this particular debate. It's silly. It doesn't come up THAT often where it's a huge issue.

Just because something has always been that way doesn't necessarily make it correct.@SkitchP wrote:But this is the circumstance that has existed among all sports since the playoffs have existed, right?
Because it fosters rivalries?@SkitchP wrote:Why have divisional play if there is not a tangible benefit to winning that division?
Look, I can probably hold my nose and deal with a 7-9 team in the playoffs once in a blue moon even though I don't like it. Getting into the playoffs is enough of a tangible benefit--we don't need to award a home game to boot.

Just because something seems wrong once every 5 years doesn't mean to change the entire system either. Win more games. Win your division.

Who's talking about changing the entire system? By everyone's own admission here this is something that happens rarely, so why would preventing losing teams from at least hosting a playoff game be such a shock to the system?@SkitchP wrote:Just because something seems wrong once every 5 years doesn't mean to change the entire system either. If a team does what it's supposed to, and win its division, why SHOULDNT they host a playoff game? Because a team with an entirely different schedule has more wins?

Then just do away with divisional play all together.

It looks like a lot of Packers pissed in the snow pile behind their bench. Way to show it, Fox.

Are you could go in the other irrational extreme and say that only divisional games count toward winning the division.Green Habit wrote:That's fine with me, although I don't think it's necessary.@SkitchP wrote:Then just do away with divisional play all together.Green Habit wrote:Yep.@SkitchP wrote:If a team does what it's supposed to, and win its division, why SHOULDNT they host a playoff game? A playoff birth without guaranteed home field advantage is a fine reward.

I had a dream the other night that the Lions would win the central. Then I woke up. Still go to New England and Green Bay. Yeah, wild card. Which I will take. Thought they'd go like 6-10 this year.
