I had a dream the other night that the Lions would win the central. Then I woke up. Still go to New England and Green Bay. Yeah, wild card. Which I will take. Thought they'd go like 6-10 this year.

Was this dream 13 years ago when the "central" still existed?

It's hard for me to form an opinion on the Cards. On one hand, they've caught every team they've faced at the perfect time. On the other hand, they been fighting through a ton of injuries themselves.
But it's pretty hard to see a team that has no running game doing well in the playoffs. Ellington's production has plummeted and having an offense that's gonna require Stanton to throw for 300 yards every game is bad news, despite the stellar receiving corps.
The D is fucking legit and Patrick Peterson has been lights out for 3 weeks now. They are also the best-coached team in the NFL and the team chemistry is unbelievable.
I'd still have a hard time believing this team could beat GB in the playoffs... at Lambeau or in PHX, which would essentially be a home game for the Pack anyway.

If the NFL didn't do this, the bad PR they would have gotten would have been big--but on the other hand it sure seems like they violated the CBA in doing this. But even if the NFLPA wins a grievance, they risk the bad PR shifting to them. In the end, it may be Peterson himself that needs to resolve this by convincingly demonstrating that what he did was wrong, and that he has made numerous positive steps to correct his behavior.

In this sense, I think the league handled it right up until now. They suspended him, the courts did their business now he should be back. Fine him for the time missed as a violation of the conduct but no more games.

This is just going overboard because they botched the issue with Rice.

Who's talking about changing the entire system? By everyone's own admission here this is something that happens rarely, so why would preventing losing teams from at least hosting a playoff game be such a shock to the system?

If a team does what it's supposed to, and win its division, why SHOULDNT they host a playoff game? Because a team with an entirely different schedule has more wins?

Then just do away with divisional play all together.

That's fine with me, although I don't think it's necessary.

Are you could go in the other irrational extreme and say that only divisional games count toward winning the division.

A playoff birth without guaranteed home field advantage is a fine reward.

Just keep everything how it is except seed the wildcard teams with better records higher than the divisional winners with worse records.
