I feel kind of dirty for using a Christian saying in my counter-argument.

Ahh, yes. "So, uh, how about those 2015 movies, huh?" One of most controversial and debate-igniting moments in all of Apostles.

I wouldn't support a kiddydiddler or rapist, but I can generally claim ignorance on this stuff as I'm seldom interested in the personal lives of creators, and don't feel the need to do a background check on them every time I see a movie.

Of the people accused here, I've only ever read about Woody Allen, who I'm inclined to believe is innocent (or at least certainly not proven guilty). I'm vaguely aware of the Polanski thing, apparently the cops have some proof? I dunno, I've only seen a couple of his movies anyway.

I've never met any of these people and never will, so I'll leave the prosecutions to people who have.

Anyway, what I don't need is some self righteous asshole telling me I love child molesters because I watched a Woody Allen movie or something. Those people can die.

You love child molesters because you like Van Halen.

I think it's fair to take a moment to differentiate between Woody Allen and Roman Polanski. Polanski pled guilty to raping a teenager then fled the country to avoid prison. Woody Allen married his sorta-step-daughter, which is totally creepy. BUT: He probably didn't molest his daughter. Obviously, we can never know for sure. But in all likelihood, it's a lie Mia Farrow made up during a custody battle. REGARDLESS, he didn't flee the country or plead guilty to anything. In fact, the criminal justice system could find nothing that pointed to any actual molestation of his daughter. Is Woody Allen a weird dude? Yes. Is he a criminal? No.

That's where a lot of the line is drawn for me. I can give the benefit of the doubt. Woody Allen? Weird. PROBABLY criminal. Sinatra? Probably a Bad dude. Ray Lewis MIGHT have killed a guy.. but I dont know for sure, I can use that doubt to justify being accepting.

By the way, I will watch the fuck out of any Polanski movie you put in front of me. And I will pay up to 12 US dollars to do it.

I'm fairly convinced that Woody Allen is guilty, especially after reading the Vanity Fair piece "10 Undeniable Facts About the Woody Allen Investigation", which he didn't respond to. http://www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/ ... e-10-facts

I like (some of) his movies a whole lot, but the guy creeps me out beyond words.

I like this part:
8. Allen changed his story about the attic where the abuse allegedly took place. First, Allen told investigators he had never been in the attic where the alleged abuse took place. After his hair was found on a painting in the attic, he admitted that he might have stuck his head in once or twice. A top investigator concluded that his account was not credible.
I imagine him literally popping just his head up through the attic door.

Holy fuck is that article unsettling.

Has anyone here actually stopped paying attention or distanced themselves from an artist/athlete/entertainer because of actions they'd taken unrelated to their line of work that you disagreed with?

After Billy Corgan's whole transphobic attacks on that one girl, I found myself looking at my Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan shirts in my closet and feeling gross about the idea of ever wearing them in public again. I very rarely listen to his records anymore, and when I do I feel kinda weird about it. I haven't paid attention to anything new he's done since then. I dunno, I suppose it'll maybe one day pass, but as of yet it still hasn't.

(I'm not suggesting Billy Corgan belongs in this debate or that anyone else should avoid his work or feel the need to justify still listening to it, I'm just citing a personal example)

Thats a pretty shitty article, honestly.

He was alone with her for 15-20 minutes? so what? Farrow told Allen, “You look at her [Dylan] in a sexual way...” and?!

I've also read others that refute much of it.

I think you may be mixing up your articles. I don't think anybody from the pro-Allen camp has refuted the facts in this piece. They're all documented.

I've read it, but nothing in that piece refutes the facts in the VF article, which was published later.

I want Woody Allen to be innocent because I love Annie Hall and Manhattan, but with the facts that have been presented, I just... it's not looking good.

That said, he will never do time for this, and Dylan has told her story, so this is all just noise. I'll continue to like the movies he's made that I already love, but I'll probably feel too icky about wearing my Woody Allen t-shirt in public.
