I'm only a few levels into Super Mario World 3D and I'm already in love.

Oh man, I'm jealous. You get to go through all those times as all the different characters... what a fantastic game that is.

I adored Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. It is early but this one might be up there too. The gameplay is so purely enjoyable.

Mrs Rangi just bought me Far Cry 4 - I guess she's trying to say that we spend too much time together

God I am soooo craving a PS4 right now. I want to play Advanced Warfare really badly. Far Cry 4 also looks really tempting but I'm afraid I won't be able to do everything in it that I'd like to.

Team, I need some advice/help.

For the spoiled little shit that is my 6 1/2 year old son (and his equally spoiled 4 1/2 year sister), we want to get a game console. Even though they have a better selection of more "age-appropriate" games, we pretty much ruled out anything by Nintendo.

So I guess that leaves the PS4 and Xbox 1. Any advantages/disadvantages to one of which I should be aware. The internet thing gives me a lot of contradictory information.

So what do I get?

From my point of view, the difference between PS4 and XBox 1 is fuck all. They both do pretty much the same thing, and the graphics/processing difference is only apparent to game nerds that site there obsessing over every tiny little minute detail, that most average people won't ever notice.

The only distinct difference that should really affect your choice, is whether there are any console exclusive game series' that you/your kids prefer. i.e. Halo is only on Xbox. Apart from that, the majority of the big titles are available across both consoles.

I used to be a loyal Playstation owner (ps1/ps2) but I ended up buying a 360 because it was about $150 cheaper than the PS3 at the time, and the games I wanted to get were not exclusive to either console. That was several years ago, and I'm still happy with my choice.

As above, I've heard Wii U is great. And, IMO, Nintendo has always been the best console for kids/families due to their range of games and the durability/simplicity of their devices.
