Demographic Maps

Post by Green Habit »

Might as well bring back on of my favorite subjects.

This is a map of percentage of weed consumption by state:

Nothing real surprising here except maybe for Michigan. Also, I had to laugh at how Utah is surrounded by a bunch of stoners in the rest of the West.

Care to explain? I'm sure the difference between OR and VA on that map will come into play...

In the meantime, we also have this map to observe:

Had to chuckle at the South and Austin for different reasons.

Well, for starters I don't smoke pot, but I do see the good it's doing for a lot of people with health issues so I'm a huge supporter of hemp/cannabis for that reason alone. Big pharma would take a hit, but that's a very good thing. The fact that it's illegal when our economy is almost the worst it's ever been is just astounding. Hemp alone could solve the unemployment problem. Taxing this product, and exporting it, could help reduce the deficit. Using it for building materials and clothing would also do a lot of good - could completely replace cotton, doesn't require pesticides to grow like cotton does, so it's far more green. I'm sure there's a lot more that could be said, but that's a good starting point for a discussion. Anyone disagree with any of that?

The differences, that I see, come down to religion. :)

We've talked about that before. :)

And I don't disagree with you, other than I'm not that optimistic that hemp could displace that many other materials. Still, that's no reason to lump it into illegality. For me, the strongest argument for legalizing cannabis (hell, even all drugs) is that it's the only way to end the vicious drug war that's cost so much--both in monetary and human terms.

Just that both the South and Austin continued to live up to stereotypes.

The real surprise to me on that map was how darkly shaded the SLC suburbs were. I mused elsewhere that there must be some subversive thought going on at BYU. :haha:

That, w/out a doubt. The gov. should not be involved in it, if you want to sit at home and do a line, you should be able to :D
I should rephrase that, it wouldn't replace all materials, but it's a much better option vs some materials.

Doesn't that map really just indicate where the stupid people who favor gay marriage are?

I am a recreational user but when I do have pain (usually foot/back pain since I have flat feet) it's really amazing how well it works. It can almost be dangerous sometimes because I'll almost forget I was hurt in the first place.
