Although, it may have been registered by another entity and then sold to Tenclub/PJ at a later time.
I don't know, registering a name at one point and then doing something with it 3 years later seems to be about on par for how long it takes Pearl Jam to get something done.
Joke aside, was't it strictly tenclub.net for a while. It was even longer before tenclub.net and pearljam.com ran simultaneously, correct?

Could have been registered by Sony. Sounds like something a mayor label would do at the time for their big acts.

No, don't worry at all.
They'll buy and they'll buy,
no matter the songs!
This is the point (of PJ), isn't it?
There's a rock cliché that the before mentioned Doors share with Pearl Jam - the scapegoat lead singer and the poor real talented guys in his shadow "expert" public opinion. Morrison's breakdown happened 2 years after their debut similar to Ed's attempt to withdraw from the spotlight a couple of years after Ten. The other Doors would embrace every possibility to get a buck from their music and usually write relatively standard 60's pop songs. Stone and Jeff were shooting music videos with their other bands on Epic records from 93-96 while "Pearl Jam" decided not to.

"The risen from the ashes of MLB" band was always to be about the money, Stone didn't even hide the fact he was upset they were selling less records. If Brad or Three Fish made them similar money as PJ they would have left but it didn't. The Doors released 2 unsuccessful records after Jim died but soon realised that selling "Jimbo the shaman" was a better long term career move.
The Doors are kind of a joke largely because of how they've "marketed" Jim posthumously and consequentially themselves. Pearl Jam is turning into kind of a joke but Jeff,Stone and Mike are as happy with the band as ever.
I don't buy the notion that they stayed together because they like working together. If they did they maybe would stop talking about the Vitalogy/No Code misery every time they promote an album as in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTj9jGkG_Ow#t=728
Oh and be sure to keep watching the video until the part when they describe how amazing to work with Ed has become.
Fucking money hungry spineless bitches. If they gave 2 shits about the artistic value of their music they'd leave the band in 199something without the whines and moans, all of them Vedder included. This is the one thing i blame him/them for. If Ed wanted a less mainstream career he should have left PJ, if PJ wanted to keep a mainstream career and shoot videos they should have fired Ed.
It's no surprise they turned into to what they are now, but it's not because Ed decided other people's genius wouldn't make him enough $ but because this is what PJ was always supposed to be and the other guys just don't make as much $ when Ed's not involved.

I actually think that they did have to buy pearljam.com from someone else, and I remember it being kind of a big deal (in my young, stupid head) when the two domains merged. I'm still in the habit of typing tenclub.net though (the few times I look at the official site).

I could be totally wrong though. Memories are tricky.

Buying up domain names before the internet became functional enough to warrant the attention of rich famous people was the 90's equivalent of serious investing.

That, and Beanie Babies.

my old company spent something like $100,000 on a domain name in the 90s. they ended up never using it either.
