i gettin this one...yeah the 1998 tour was a special one...even the band knows that. They all sounded amazing, the guitars, eddie, Jeff...first tour with Matt...great memories.

The setlists...they are ok to me, not that special...i prefer the setlists from 2005, where they included some b sides.

Not to mention that just about song that ended up on a setlist they played WELL.

I would gladly take one of those 135 minute shows with 25 songs they play the living daylights out of over these three hour-plus shows laced with obscurities they don't really remember how to play that the bulk of the fan base seems to lust for so badly.

Went to Meadowlands in 98 to see them. ...September. .....nothing was better than soldier fieldboot. Got Iit for $75 and loved it

Anyway, yeah, the Melbourne 3/5/98 shows is one of my all time favorite boots.

The 1998 and 2000 tours are the only Pearl Jam tours I love unequivocally, with no caveats. There are things that bug me about their live performances from everywhere else in their career (some more than others, for sure), but the things I personally love about the band were at an ideal balance at this point in their development.

That Checkpoint Charlie show from Berlin, in 96, was a far better show than that Ozzie show. I never see it getting any love here at all. Weird.

I've always found the mixes of the broadcast shows from Berlin in 1996 and Melbourne in 1995 really poor, they're distractingly bad. Brendan O'Brien mixed the Berlin recording (as he did the Atlanta show from 1994), so it's puzzling as to why it sounds so amateurish.

Interesting reading through. I could have written many of the replies myself, I have many of the exact same experiences. Tape trading, SVT, etc...

I sort of fell out of touch with the band in 1997, I saw my first show in the fall of '96, but then I had way too much fun my last year in school and 1st year in college. I remember being surprised by Yield, it sort of snuck up on me. I loved it out of the gate. It's still my default favorite, although if I really analyze my opinions, I probably would put No Code and Vitalogy above it, but Yield is always my go-to PJ album. SVT was super-perfect. I got back into it real hard real fast. I went to 5 shows that summer/fall, spent three days in the summer at Alpine Valley. Awesome times

I pulled out my box of bootleg tapes the other day, 95% pearl jam, some i remember playing the shit out of during '98.

Haven't listened through the '98 MSG II show in a long, long time. I just copied it over from my Audio Archive discs, going to give it a listen. I heard Immortality and Breath today from this show on sirius while in the car. I hope the version I have in this audio archive set is the same recording, that sounded great.

So, anyone know what source PJ Radio would have used for Breath from the 9/11/98 MSG II show? I heard it today, and it sounded quite a bit cleaner than the version I have from the Audio Archives.

I remember back in the day I had a friend of mine who would tape episodes of South Park for me because we didn't have cable at my house...Anyway one day at school my buddy handed me the tape and said "make sure you watch the commercials, I know you'll be interested in one of them for sure".

Sure enough...


Needless to say I was surprised, and probably watched that commercial over and over again...more so than the rest of the episode. It was a real surprise after the ticketmaster issues, and the backlash to see a Pearl Jam COMMERCIAL of all things pop up randomly.
