What exactly is cool and subversive about saying your favorite Wilco album is Being There?

I wouldn't say it's necessarily superior to all of those records, though I'd rank it miles ahead of OK Computer.

I tend to group Kid A, Amnesiac and In Rainbows together as I think they're all excellent with King of Limbs ranking slightly below.

HTTT is something of a mixed bag for me, it has some really superb material but parts of the album (particularly the first half) feel like an unwelcome throwback to their Bends/OK Computer approach.

everyone picks yankee hotel foxtrot. choosing being there lets people know that you liked them when they were still tapping into the alt-country roots of uncle tupelo. the consensus pick regarding wilco is that they're better when they're exploratory, and it's consensus because it's true. but there's a birds in hell in every crowd, chris.

nothing wrong with that. it's YHF, followed by AGIB, for me.

Thing is, Alex, I am constantly tortured by self-doubt about all of my opinions; part of me always suspects that everyone else has far greater insight and understanding than I do.

I imagine it would probably be quite nice to derive a sense of self-satisfaction from the superiority of my own tastes but I guarantee you that I don't.

Me either. Not all the way through, anyway. I've listened to bits and pieces here and there but nothing has ever grabbed me, perhaps they're just not my thing.

Same here. "Jesus, etc." is fine, I guess. That's about all I can say.

Because we're ranking Radiohead albums, here are mine:

AGIB
YHF
Summerteeth
Being There
Sky Blue Sky
AM
The Whole Love
Wilco (The Album) (besides Bull Black Nova, what a God-forsaken abortion of an album that turned out to be)

Guys, Being There is Wilco's best album. Then Summerteeth. Jay Bennett and Ken Coomer was where it's at. YHF is a good in too.

Jay Bennett wrote a lot of YHF, so it's OK to like that one just as much.

By the way, Being There should've been one album -- there's a lot of waste.

Nels Cline is pretty much my favourite musician in the world and even that isn't enough to get me interested in Wilco.

This question probably should be asked in the Wilco thread.

I'm well aware of that. It doesn't have the roll of the preceding two though. I'm more a fame of Coomers drumming.
