Yeah, I heard those the other day. Really like them, but they don't really fit on the album.psychobain wrote:Just in case someone missed this:

Yep!
The other song feels a bit more like Rave Tapes (Tell Everybody I Love Them)

I still feel that half of this album is lacking in any real identity. Those B-sides are kinda neat, but they're pretty clearly cast-offs.
"Die 1 Dislike!" sounds like a minor tune from theHardcore sessions that got carried over and rejected again. It needs more contrast to sound properly fleshed out, instead of a riff that just gets louder and has more arrangements added over time.
"Bad Magician 3" fits better with the Rave Tapes aesthetic. I can't say for sure if I think it would fit better on the album than some of the other weaker songs, but I do like the overall tone of it.

^A reissue of CODY is out later this year, and apparently it's coming with roughly 90 minutes of unreleased material. An entire record that was recorded around the same time, but scrapped. Count me as very intrigued.
A new EP is supposed to be out in the fall, too.

"Re-Remurdered" (track #4) is excellent.
I liked Rave Tapes as well, but this is going very nicely at first listen.
Thanks for the linky-poo.

Well, the ep is really good.
I think this is the format they should work after Rave Tapes.

The Hawk is Howling
Young Team (strange to have it this low)
Come On Die young

Rave Tapes
Rock Action
Zidane
Seems weird to include Ten Rapid, but It'd be in the top half.

Re: Kids Will Be Skeletons (the Mogwai thread)
"Happy Songs" and "The Hawk is Howling" are probably my two favorites, but after that I find it pretty tough to rank their work -- not least because their EP's oftentimes feel as crucial to me as their albums do, and working them into the mix just gets messy. Instead I will do a top 10:
Untitled (Travels in Constants EP) (my once and forever favorite Mogwai track, seeing it finally get its due as part of the CODY reissue was pure elation for me)
History Day
Remurdered
Relative Hysteria
New Paths to Helicon 2 (the "lead guitar" at the end always gets me on this one)
Christmas Steps
My Father My King
Glasgow Mega-Snake
