Unusually for a band I love as much as I do Soundgarden, I don't have a huge fondness for their assorted b-sides and non-album tracks (with a few exceptions - and I'm still looking forward to picking up Echo of Miles regardless).

For the most part I think the best material made it to the records.

I'll never argue that it's a great song but I do like it. But I'm a weird SG fan - Badmotorfinger is probably my least favorite SG album, and I'm probably the only SG fan who feels that way.

Well, it's easy for me given every song after the first four - the only song after those I really love is "Searching With My Good Eye Closed". The problem I have with Badmotorfinger is the production. I absolutely despise it. It makes it difficult for me to even listen to the studio album. It's so dry, flat and lifeless (to me), and the drums sound like garbage. It also has a lot of songs that don't really do a lot for me, like "Face Pollution" and "Holy Water". The studio version of "Searching With My Good Eye Closed" is AWFUL - I mean, AWFUL. Given how it sounds like, it's painful for me to even listen to the studio version. They should have never agreed to record it in a different tuning - it just sucks the life out of the song. Even "Slaves and Bulldozers" gets old after awhile - I remember that the last time I saw them, they closed with it again and while I loved the shit out of it, I was bummed that I'd seen them four times and still hadn't heard "Like Suicide", which I was really hoping they would play.

But again, this is like saying which child is my least favorite. I still love it. I'd just rather listen to their other albums (and I'm not counting King Animal, which has to be held to a different standard). I'm a huge fan of early Soundgarden, probably much more than most people. I just love songs like "Entering" a lot more than I'm going to love, say, "Face Pollution". It's all subjective.

I actually hear you about Slaves - it's not a go to song for me these days, although it sure used to be, and I bet it was for most SG fans at one point. You're talking to the #1 backer of Like Suicide here so a choice between that and Slaves would be easy.

I also think the more you get into the band, the more you appreciate the early stuff. It took me quite a while to really start digging Heretic, for instance, but one day it hit. Now that's it clear they are going through the back catalogue with a good deal of attention fans need to keep the pressure up so we eventually get to hear more of the unsurfaced mid 80s pre-SL stuff we've been talking about in this thread.

I do have to say though, for me Face Pollution and Drawing Flies are two of their best faster songs.

It's funny, I tend to think BMF picks up steam as it goes along. I like Outshined and Slaves but neither would bother a top 20 list for me.

This is just a superb run of songs (and I often start the album from here when I throw it on):

Mind Riot could arguably be my all time fav SG song (despite the poor BMF production), close second being Like Suicide. Suicide always turned out better live, though.

If we're talking best non-album tracks, it's going to be hard picking a top spot since Kristi has turned out so well. Likely a tie between that and Blind Dogs (I could drive to the latter all day).

I don't have huge issues with it either. It's certainly of its time but it doesn't bother me a great deal.

It just sounds bad in comparison to the albums that came after it.

In isolation it sounds awesome.

I certainly don't feel it's unlistenable. Feels a bit 'flat' sounding but it doesn't feel as dated as Ten.

Not to complain or anything but it would have been really awesome if they would have included the Brian May version of New Damage. Cornell's wail at the beginning of that version is bone chilling.

Really digging Echo of Miles. I like Soundgarden, terrific band, and I'm not as familiar with the B sides and rarities as most in here, but this is a really strong set of songs.

I still can't determine how Karaoke is more of an oddity than Exit Stonehenge.

"Karaoke" is a top 5 Soundgarden song for me.

I have been listening to the compilation non-stop on Google Play; there are a number of songs on it that impress me. Kim did a tremendous job in bringing this long-term project to fruition.

Now to "Karaoke" - this has become one of my top 5 Soundgarden hits. The instrumental flurries and distinct lyrics have that distinct Soundgarden musical calling card. I recall Stone Gossard dubbing them the "Rush of Seattle".

God are these guys tight in their playing!!!!!!!!!!!
