Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

I have a feeling I'll get the album proper, sans leaks and enjoy it. Then I will see the new songs a Barclays and it will be the Second Coming. The HV songs really hit home after seeing them live in Brooklyn, just wish it was another BAM appearance and not an arena.

And at the moment Tall Saint is my most repeated B-Side.

they also completely self produced this album without much help from Peter Katis. we'll see...
as much as i loved Alligator & Boxer, i don't think Katis' is all that great of a producer honestly...
also, they produced High Violet themselves too, Peter just had a few minor production credits
"front man Matt Berninger described the songs as more “immediate and visceral” than their previous work."

i didnt know Katis wasn't involved in HV. if they (i guess the two brothers) produced the majority of HV, then i'm less nervous about the production for the new album.

oasisfan, i agree with you about the HV songs at the BAM show. that show is top 5 all time for me. im sure it helped that they had sufjan, reed perry, padma (?) and a string quartet with them. :)

I'll be testing my tantric abilities in not listening to anything before the album drops. I really do wish they were playing a room smaller than Barclays though.

my best attempt at the lyrics:

When I think of you in the city,
The sight of you among the sites.
I get this sudden sinking feeling,
Of a man about to fly.
Never kept me up before,
Now I've been awake for days.
I can't fight it anymore,
I'm going through an awkward phase.
I am secretly in love with,
Everyone that I grew up with.
Do my crying underwater,
I can't get down any farther.
All my drowning friends can see,
Now there is no running from it.
It's become the crux of me,
I wish that I could rise above it.

But I stay down,
With my demons.
But I stay down,
With my demons

Passing buzzards in the sky,
Alligators in the sewers.
I don't even wonder why,
Hide among the under views.
Huddle with them all night long,
The worried talk with god goes on.
I sincerely tried to love her,
Wish that I could rise above her.

But I stay down,
With my demons.
I stay down,
With my demons
I stay down,
With my demons.
I stay down,
With my demons
I stay down,
With my demons

But I stay down,
With my demons
Cannot stay here I can't sleep,
on the floor.
Drink the blood and hang the palms,
On the door.
Do not think I'm going places anymore,
Wanna see the sun come above New York.
Oh, everyday I start so great,
Then the sunlight dims.
Less I've learned,
The more I see the pythons and the limbs.
Do not know what's wrong with me,
Sours in the cut.
When I walk into a room,
I do not light it up.
Fuck.

So I stay down,
With my demons
I stay down,
With my demons
I stay down,
With my demons
I stay down,
With my demons

It's a good song, I'm just not a fan of the chorus. If it were on High Violet, it would be the worst song on the album.

talk to me after your 10th+ listen ;)

that chorus is SUPER subtle-y hooky, just like most of The National's music. their albums/songs have never been music that is instantly gratifying.

there's so many great subtle layers... the horns under the 2nd chorus... the huge string section under the 3rd verse, etc.

Sorry, but I disagree.
I have been playing it all day. I'm not saying it's a bad song, I just don't love it.
