So today was the first local Atlanta discussion of Paul Johnson potentially to Nebraska, they don't think it would happen, but if they would have him and Paul would go, the opportunity would never be better.
I'm just not sure he's a big enough name for Nebraska. I'd kind of like to see it though, bring back Tommie Frazier to coach QBs.

So yeah, do we kill the College Football Playoff now or....
If it's possible to create a dumber system to decide a champion I don't know what it is.

Re: 2014 College Football Season
A move to an 8 team playoff (which I'm not totally on board with) would be a bit more fair. Take the power 5 conference champs and 3 at large teams.
I guess this system would require conferences like the Big 12 to actually declare a conference champ.

I like the current system of selecting, but would also like to see them expand it to 8 teams (here's a suggestion: eliminate the bullshit "pre-conference" cupcake schedules and go right into conference play so we don't have to hear them complain about the playoff running too far into January).

In the Big 10, with the exception of 1 of 2 games, Nebraska's entire schedule is cupcake.doug rr wrote:but without an early cupcake schedule nebraska will only win 1 or 2 games a yearChris_H_2 wrote:I like the current system of selecting, but would also like to see them expand it to 8 teams (here's a suggestion: eliminate the bullshit "pre-conference" cupcake schedules and go right into conference play so we don't have to hear them complain about the playoff running too far into January).

Logic. I don't want there to have to be a dissertation to explain why team X is in front of team Y.
I was against the 8 team + model until this nonsense last night.
At this point, we might as well start creating a standard scheduling model to make schedules close to equitable. I'm still in favor of eliminating the bulk of the cheap wins and or moving the eligibility for bowls to 8 games... but that's just me.

Under the 4 team format right now, it would make more sense to go back to the BCS system for ratings.

This whole thing is a joke. I hope all the big players choke this weekend creating total anarchy.

I assume you have a gripe with the current rankings. Anything in particular?Electromatic wrote:Green Habit wrote:What do you want to see?Electromatic wrote:So yeah, do we kill the College Football Playoff now or....

Re: 2014 College Football Season
It doesn't really matter until after this weekend, but I find it fairly amusing, that they take the FSU team that hasn't lost and drop them below 3 teams that have as well as dropping the Big 12 champion should they win Saturday to 7 and moving the team that they beat TCU to 3.Chris_H_2 wrote:I assume you have a gripe with the current rankings. Has FSU looked great no, but they haven't lost, they aren't even applying the same logic to the same teams. Ohio State lost to Virginia Tech and they are sitting at 5? Who did they beat to put them there and how did they look doing it? I watched them go to double overtime against Penn State with no offensive line and about 60 players worthy of being on scholarship.
Baylor lost to West Virginia on the road, but should they win Saturday and they have the same record as TCU I don't see how they aren't the conference champion because they played head to head even if I believe TCU is the better team.
Alabama lost to Ole Miss hasn't looked all that impressive much of the season and almost lost to Arkansas...but we downgrade FSU for winning? Doesn't make any logical sense.
They probably have the 4 best teams in the top 4 right now but the logic for getting to that point doesn't really make much sense and if Baylor wins Saturday what's the logic for keeping them out? That the Big 12 just decided to award co champions? They played the same schedule, they played head to head and Baylor won.
The whole point of "playoffs" is to decide these things on the field. I guess between an arbitrary 4 that's what we get, and then hopefully better bowl match ups but we'll see I guess.

Re: 2014 College Football Season
I'm guessing it's the whole Baylor/TCU controversy, since it's pretty blatant. Baylor beat TCU, and barring a circular tie like the infamous Texas/OU/TT mess of a few years ago, Baylor should be ahead of TCU, period. This might be a bigger screw job than Kansas getting in the BCS over Mizzou that one year despite the Tigers beating the Jayhawks.Chris_H_2 wrote:I assume you have a gripe with the current rankings. I would love for FSU, Baylor, Ohio State and one other (Oregon/'Bama) to lose this weekend and see what happens.

Oh I'd love to see that. Chaos. Georgia Tech, Mizzou, Wisconsin, K State win... I'm even good with Baylor beating K state.
What if the conference banned from playing a title game because they only have 10 teams gets 2 in and they rematch in the title game.

Right, at the very least put TCU at 4, Baylor 5 and OSU 6 going into the weekend.

Re: 2014 College Football Season
The problem with putting FSU at 4 if you have no intent on dropping them out if they win out:
If Ohio State wins Big Ten and they want them in the top 4, how can you then keep the number 4 from the week prior (FSU) and instead drop the number 3 team, TCU? All this ranking does is tell me that if TCU wins this weekend, they are in no matter what.

I think the other problem (and this has been a perennial one) is that putting out rankings at any other time other than when they actually count is ultimately meaningless, and it's exactly why we're having this debate in the first place. I get why they do weekly rankings--it brings ratings and keeps people talking about the sport. And you can't stop anyone ranging from the AP to your average Joe putting out their own rankings. But the official ones should not be released until the end.
