Thing I don't get is there's more than enough rape stories that finding a true story wouldn't have been hard and a less horrific one would have kept the story about how UVA admin has reacted to reported assaults in the past.

That wasn't a problem for the story. The writer found lots of victims willing to share their story but the writer went rape story shopping until she found one just sensational enough for her. But as a whole for society, I agree.

In addition to potentially ruining somebody's life, the false claim also makes you a big part of the reason it's as hard as it is to convict rapists. So I suppose you are helping to ensure that actual rape isn't prosecuted enough.

But I would bet that most false claims are just like this one…falsely made to the public, not to the police.

Since the feds made college sexual assault a title IX issue, it seems unfortunately to fall under the title of 'feminism'. Seems like a less than ideal approach, but hey, its the feds.

I'm surprised you haven't heard of this. The feds issued a memo, along with several campus investigations that have led to the lower standard of proof for campus adjudicated sexual assault hearings. http://www.campussafetymagazine.com/art ... ess-Effort

If I am somehow off base, let me know, but this is consistent with what I've read several places.
