Not surprising, really. I don't begrudge anyone not feeling that movie. My connection with it is extremely personal. The Argonaut wrote:Fearless Vampire Killers is an entirely unfunny cartoon. I got nothing out of it.

Does anyone like Rossellini around here? What should a guy watch first?

OK whatever. It was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It makes me angry at how bad it is.

Re: What movies are you watching?
whatever is not an aggressive word, guys.
I'll just say I'm glad Polanski stopped making 'comedies' and leave it at that. Though I'll also say that I have trouble even using quotes to call this a 'comedy' because it was so spectacularly unfunny on every possible level. And then I'll leave it at that.

i'll also say: What I meant by "OK, whatever" was "This is obviously very personal to you and you obviously don't want to go into detail about it so I'm not going to press you about the time you and your dad had a catch, you shared an ice cream with your great-aunt, and then pop-pop took you to see this movie right before a comet smashed your town and everyone but you died. or whatever."

Re: What movies are you watching?
That's not really what I mean by personal. It's not like I had a personal experience with watching the movie; it's that the content of the movie connects with me personally. It's the snowy vistas, the incessant blue night filters, Komeda's haunting, ethereal score, the lush, European atmosphere, the mountains, the eerie, surreal, dreamlike vibe established right from the opening moments. Watching that movie feels like snuggling under a warm blanket on a snowy night. And, yes, it conjures a lot of nostalgia for me, even though I never saw it as a kid. There is just no other cinematic experience even close to it.
And, obviously, I disagree about the unfunny comedy. I think it's hilarious, and it's one of the few movies that actually gets funnier every time I watch it.
Also, Polanski never stopped making comedies.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I'm glad he stopped making sub-par Mel-Brooks-style spoofs. This movie is like Mel Brooks's version of Rocky Horror Picture show after he watched a bunch of Bugs Bunny cartoons. But somehow not at all manic. And just in case that sounds good to someone (it kind of does to me) it's also shitty.
But, yeah, there are mountains.
