Mad Season - Above

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

I wish McCready still wanked like this. I've enjoyed the Lanegan bonus tracks quite a bit.

I don't know if this is common knowledge yet or not, but I almost fell out of my seat when I heard the "Interlude" on this today...it's the riff from my favorite PJ improv, the one right before Present Tense in Salzburg 2000. Only, that improv had a more realized structure, with this just showcasing the initial riff. Still, interesting to think about whether this was originally a Mad Season song all along, that he just happened to start playing at a PJ show (and a great one at that).

Which new song are we talking about here? It'd be nice if there was audio of that improv up somewhere that would be cool to compare...

Hey, good call! So it is. I knew it was oddly familiar.

Great find, I love that improv too. The Salzburg show and the second Katowice show were the first two official bootlegs I bought back in 2000, so I played them quite a bit.

I can't remember where for sure, but I've definitely heard that tune in more of a Mad Season setting. Maybe some live footage on youtube or something. It's been around since right around Above.

I have only gone through the album and the new tracks, and it all sounds great to me. The new songs have some serious McCready greatness going on, and the songs themselves sound excellent and not as dated as I was expecting.

I Don't Want to Be a Soldier cover is fantastic. Can't wait to play the live CD and DVD in the coming weeks.

If you like that cover you should track down a copy of the whole album: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_Cl ... ohn_Lennon

There's some solid covers, but also some pretty bad ones.

Wow, Slip Away is pretty good. I've got the original release of Above and I listened to it so much back in the day I'm still burnt out on it. I kind of ignored the re release but I'm glad I checked out this thread.

How is it split up?

I don't have it, I'm just curious.

OK, I answered my own question. I guess the cameraman was different. But still, why not stitch them together into a complete show?
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Also, these Self Pollution Radio videos beg the question ... I've got a 70 track bootleg of this show. Where's my DVD with the other 68 tracks?

Got through the rest of the live album yesterday. I'm not sure if its the remastering or that I am getting too used to CDs played in a car stereo where the left speaker is kinda shot, but it sounds really really amazing. I mean, the band live is about as good as it gets, and all of the songs on the album really pop out of the speakers. I can't fully deicide if this is me listening on my home stereo or that the production on this reissue is really that top notch. Can't wait to pop in the DVD.
