It's bullshit. It's not a christmas movie. Hell, Die Hard 2 is more of a christmas movie.
Die Hard totally counts as a Christmas movie. It's about a man visiting his family at Christmas.
That's the setting. Not the story. It doesn't have a christmas theme nor is it central to the storyline.

The hostage situation takes place during a Christmas party. There's Christmas all around that movie - from the music to the decorations in many of the rooms that scenes take place in....
"I really enjoy sandwiches but the other guys are so good at making sandwiches that I don't make them. Now I make sandwiches."

Agreed. Just because Die Hard's main narrative thrust doesn't directly involve Christmas themes doesn't mean it doesn't have the holiday's fingerprints all over it (Christmas decorations throughout the movie, the action taking place during an office Christmas party, the protagonist visiting his family for Christmas, ending with a Christmas song, the already discussed sleigh bell-heavy score).

Fred Claus and Trading Places make the rotation sometimes in the d_v household. I'm sure as my little one gets older, some kiddy themed movies will start making the rotation too.
