4. Definitely 4. 3 is the superior album.

So you guys are making lists of your favorite albums that aren't actually lists of your favorite albums because you applied arbitary rules that make it a favorite artists list instead.

Yeah?

Yeah?
Yeah, basically. I don't believe in the one-per-artist rule and I'm not sure why so many people are applying it.

Not quite -- there are a few artists on my list (Vince Guaraldi, Robin Holcomb) that have made one album that mean the world to me, but those artists wouldn't qualify as anything close to my favorite artists overall. Likewise, there are a few (John Coltrane, Zeppelin, Radiohead) that would rank way up on my favorite artists list, but haven't produced a singular work that are as meaningful to me as any of these.

The one-per-artist thing I assume is just to make the list more fun -- I would assume that most people would have a lot of repeat appearances if they were really honest with themselves, as one of the major criteria for what determines our favorite artists is that those artists have produced multiple albums that mean something to us.

I wonder if I'll ever fail to marvel at just how much Kevin Davis gets it. I hope not. I hope not.

Yes, everything KD said and I'd even give some of the same examples (LZ, Radiohead). I think I may've been the first to apply the 'no repeat artists' rule but it was simply to make it a more interesting exercise for me, I didn't expect it would suit everyone (or even anyone) else.
