So many ironic responses. Who new RM was so edgy?

Probably The Ring. The Conjuring got me pretty scared as well.

The Ring was terrifying. Fuck the jump cut to that chick in the pantry.

The Conjuring was terrifying until it turned into a church sermon.

I have nightmares I'm driving through Arizona, and all the rocks are his face.

To overcome this you should make that picture your avatar. After Christmas of course. And after you cover Galway Girl for me.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
The Shining
The Exorcist
The Omen
Rosemary's Baby

Each of those did a number on me when I saw them. Fire Walk With Me is way less scary now that I've seen all of Twin Peaks. But watching that movie completely out of context wrecked me. And The Shining isn't as scary as it was the first time. Not anymore. But it's still completely unsettling.

BurtReynolds wrote:When I was little I watched Temple of Doom, but when it got to the part where the bad guy rips that dude's heart out, my mom told me to cover my eyes. So I did. All I could hear was the guy screaming and the bad guys chanting. For years afterwords, I watched Temple of Doom often, but never watched that part. By my teens I had built up this scene as the most brutal, repulsive thing ever filmed. Just the idea of this evil monster slowly driving his hand into that poor bastard's heart and then lowering his somehow still breathing body into a lava pit was just too much.

Then in my twenties I finally decided to watch it. What I saw was a hand reaching into a jelly-filled paper mache dummy. It was hilarious and utterly disappointing at the same time.

Moral: You'll never film something as scary as the audience's imagination.

I liked The Blair Witch Project. But it didn't scare me or get to me until after the fact. After the film, my friend, who was terrified by it, pointed out that I'd missed the whole connection at the end. Once she pointed it out I got freaked. So it was fun. The movie got to me in the car on the way home.
