What would you say are the three key differences between yourself and Riot Act?

i have yet to reach my prime, whereas riot act is an indication that pearl jam's prime had passed;
a hawaiian had no part in my creation; AND
my political satire is subtle

I don't mind Riot Act because it's closer in quality to Binaural than Avocado. For me between Riot Act and Avocado is where the largest gap/decline in quality occurs, in both sound and songwriting.

However, they were still a good live band at the time, but that wouldn't last either.

What's up with the RA hate? That's one of PJ's best albums.

For me, Riot Act is somewhat under-produced, the opposite of O'Brien's crap. I think "Save You" in particular could have used a little more work in terms of fleshing out the song, as they eventually did on stage. It sounds like barely a demo sketch. And they released it as a single! Wacky.

Couldn't disagree more. I love the raw, loose, "live in studio" sound of that album. It feels warm.

It's both the soggy ground and the warm blanket on frigid winters day.

I do too. I'm not talking about the sound of the album. I'm talking about the state of the songs at the time a "master" was achieved. More than one band member has said that they thought some of the songs were demos and too underdeveloped but Adam Kaspar insisted on keeping those early takes. Sometimes that's a good thing, but in the case of "Save You", I think the song could have used some more arranging work. I'd like to hear a studio version of that song that has that same raw sound, but resembles the live version. They don't sound confident at all on the "Riot Act" version. For such an assertive song, it's kind of inappropriate.

I see what you mean, but I just don't have any problem with the state of the songs on the album, I guess.

That final verse in Marker is perfectly delivered by Ed.
This. S/T is the album that got me back into PJ. Fond memories.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.
