But he's equally as absurd and much more racist than Mutt. That's all I'm trying to say. People hold Crystal Skull to some nonexistent standard. Like it's sooooooooooo far below Temple of Doom. Really they're both about the same level of entertainment/absurdity/bullshit.BurtReynolds wrote:Short Round rules you bastard!

They really aren't in the same league. Its not even close. The highs are higher, and the lows aren't nearly as low.durdencommatyler wrote:But he's equally as absurd and much more racist than Mutt. Kate Capshaw kinda sucks, and the raft scene is probably on par with the stupid shit in Skull, but other than that, its so much better. And all that over the top CG just doesn't fit in a Indiana Jones movie. Real bugs >>> CGI ants.

Re: What movies are you watching?
The CG aesthetic is hugely problematic. Not to mention the depressing sight of a geriatric Ford stumbling his way through the movie. The whole thing feels stiff and awkward (like his joints).BurtReynolds wrote:They really aren't in the same league. Its not even close. I've only ever seen two James Bond movies, Casino Royale and Skyfall. As an Englishman, I feel vaguely ashamed about that.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Do itttttttttommymtcom wrote:I think I'm going to watch all of the James Bond movies starting tonight with Dr No.

But I think time and nostalgia has made the other Indy movies so much more precious to people than they actually are. Especially Temple of Doom, which even a kid I thought was pretty terrible. And hasn't aged well, at all.

No surprise here, I suppose, but I really dig Skyfall.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Those are two of the worst.tommymtcom wrote:I've only ever seen two James Bond movies, Casino Royale and Skyfall. Re: What movies are you watching?
Doom is a movie of extremes. It's both the darkest and silliest Indy movie, as opposed to the rather steady tone of Raiders and Crusade. And I love that about it. I love the ominous threat and horror that looms throughout it. But I also love the goofy, absurd humor. I think they balance each other out in just the right way. It will always be my favorite Indy movie, and one of my favorite movies period. But I realized a while ago that other people tend to have a hard time embracing the kind of ridiculous humor on display in stuff like this or Roland Emmerich or Michael Bay movies.durdencommatyler wrote:Totally agree about the CGI.BurtReynolds wrote:They really aren't in the same league. I only like Quantum of Solace, but I don't think that one is very popular with Bond fans.

Re: What movies are you watching?
My issue with Doom isn't the mixture of humor and what you're calling horror. The ridiculous humor is the only thing that keeps Doom watchable on repeated viewings.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Doom is a movie of extremes. I like the theme song from that one a whole lot. But I haven't seen the movie. Most people I know who love Bond don't care for it, though. Whatever.BurtReynolds wrote:I only like Quantum of Solace, but I don't think that one is very popular with Bond fans.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Shitty writing. Terrible VFX. Kate Capshaw. Lack of any real sense of danger. Poor editing. Underwhelming performances. Meandering plot. Shitty writing. No dramatic tension. Cartoon villains. Trope after trope after trope. Lacks a sense of fun/adventure. Poor attempt at "horror." Wonky pacing. Shitty writing. Antidotes and poisons. Opening musical number. Unintentional racist undertones. Feels really proud of itself. Nothing is earned.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Then what the hell is your problem with it?durdencommatyler wrote:My issue with Doom isn't the mixture of humor and what you're calling horror.
