I have never really listened to Dire Straits in any capacity but Mark Knopfler's last decade's worth of solo material is wonderful. Expert songwriting and tasteful, tuneful guitar playing.
yeah i like his solo stuff.

No pre-order on the new one yet...post on the website makes it seems like the LP will come out after the CD, like Benji.

Really looking forward to this release. Tossing on 'Live at Biko' now.

This reminds me, I definitely have to get Benji on my Walkman for the train ride home this evening.

It's been my experience that most, if not all Kozelek sounds better on a moving conveyance.

http://www.jambase.com/Articles/124141/ ... erformance

A few weeks back, Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard revealed that he had broken his wrist badly. The injury didn't stop Gibbard from performing at the newly- remodeled Swedish American Hall in San Francisco last night for Noise Pop's opening party. Though the wrist injury prevented Gibbard from playing guitar, he got by with a little help from his friends.

Gibbard performed as part of an acoustic trio that featured Sun Kil Moon's Mark Kozelek and Death Cab touring keyboardist Zac Rae in San Francisco last night. Ben mostly focused on Death Cab For Cutie tunes with a few solo songs and The Postal Service's "Such Great Heights" thrown in for good measure.

I've had a Pandora account for about ten years now, and for a while just seeded all the music I liked on one station, which was cool because then it could use multiple metrics to recommend some pretty idiosyncratic stuff. Anyway, the other day a song came up that I knew I quite liked and had thumbed-up some time ago. I was pretty surprised to discover that it was "Between Days" by Red House Painters. I had pretty much convinced myself that Kozelek wouldn't be for me since his douchiness seems all-encompassing and impenetrable, and I was also pretty sure most of his music was in the sad bastard folk style that I don't feel compelled to get deep into. "Between Days" is a pretty surprising refutation of those assumptions.

So my question to you Koz fans is, are there any other songs in the guy's catalog that are in a similar vein to that tune? I know his catalog is pretty big, so I'm not interested in exploring it all in addition to the reasons outlined above, but it would be nice to hear more music of that caliber.

Ghosts of the Great Highway and April are both melancholic albums but mostly not in the "Mark alone with a nylon guitar"-style if that's whats putting you off.

Do you like songs like this?

I did; based on the timing, I probably got one of the last few. Seems like it sold out in about 20 minutes.

But there will be some copies available for RSD in Europe and in some indie US stores starting 4/21.
