According to the police unions this is clear proof that any criticism of police practices is reckless. I defer to their impeccable logic and will cease further criticism , because they are all hero's and whatever brown person they shot recently totally had it coming.

One could also argue that much of the rhetoric and media coverage has been so toxic and extreme over the last few weeks that this is to be expected.

BTW, I heard a couple of the union guys this morning. The bodies aren't even cold yet and they are politicizing hard. Maybe wait a second before blaming the mayor for their deaths.

Is the NYPD contract up for renewal or something? The theater by the NYPD (aerial banners condemning the mayor, turning their back on him at various public events related to the deceased) can't make it look good in the public eye, can it? I suppose there are quite a few people that support the police no matter what, but two dead cops or not it seems that anything approaching criticism turns the entire department into petulant children. They are making it hard for me to have sympathy for the NYPD as a whole.

In other cop related news, I have zero sympathy for the no business as usual Friday (or whatever its called) folks. Occupy Wall street flamed out pretty quick, and this one will presumably do so even faster. This is the worst vehicle possible for changes in police accountability.
